You just never know who you’ll run into when you hit the ski trails at Swedetown in Calumet. Liz Siivola was out skiing the trails recently on two different occasions and had an encounter with some friendly chipmunks. The first two shots were on one day, when she spotted something peeking out of a hole in the middle of the groomed tracks. Then on another day while skiing on classic skis, a different chipmunk greeted her on the trails, even walking over her skis, like he wanted to go for a ride. Liz said she had never had that happen before and her hubby commented that it was fun to watch. My theory is that these little critters are just like many of us Yoopers, getting tired of the cold and snow and are out there on the trails looking for Spring to arrive, hoping maybe Liz can show them the trail to get there. Actually, chipmunks become more active when Spring arrives and they begin to leave their burrow, looking for food. So yet another sign that Spring is really here, even if the snow is still falling and the temperatures are chilly. Come on Spring...you can do it!
Another sign of spring is when the waterfalls begin to run...we have a new Crossing Place video from Visit Keweenaw, Songs of Stone and Water (Keweenaw Waterfalls). The lead-in says: “The ancient landscape of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula is home to some of the Great Lakes’ most striking waterfalls. Rivers and creeks carve through craggy cliffs and rolling hills, cascading down rock ledges and deep gulches in a thrilling display of nature’s force. In spring, melting snow transforms quiet, frozen falls into thunderous torrents. Summer and fall bring a more serene pace, with waterfalls backlit by the vibrant beauty of the seasons. In winter, icy formations create a breathtaking, frozen spectacle. Throughout the year, Keweenaw Land Trust invites you to discover the ever-changing power and peace of our local waterfalls.”

Poor little guys. They're not going to find spring here yet, lol. There's more snow and ice out there this morning. My son and grandson thought it would be a nice time for a visit. They left 60's for this, lol. Good thing Easter is so late this year.
Fun pictures. I bet that was cool when the little fella walked on your skis. My cat is out looking for chippies too, lol.

Interesting pix, especially since chipmunks are normally skittish around people. Great video too! How I wish that I could see it again just one more time.

Created by Bruce Novotny, who runs the That Sucks website, National “That Sucks” Day commemorates that April 15 has historically been a very unfortunate day. What happened today in history? Not only is it Tax Day, but it is also the day when President Abraham Lincoln died after being shot the day before and the day the Titanic sank to the bottom of the ocean. Certainly not the best day of the year, we do agree!
Another fact about the date, April 15th; It was chosen because when tax returns began, the IRS agents would go from house to house and collect the taxes because there were no forms then. And because it was too cold to plow, the farmers would still be at the house and the agents wouldn’t have to walk out to the field to find them. It’s April 15th; Do you know where your 1040 is???

Hi Donna, are you saying "Beware the Ides of April"? I agree that the examples you tell of and the tax deadline don't make April 15 a day we look forward to, but I have another thought about a given day being unlucky. When someone mentions Friday the 13th, I say "I don't believe in that. I can have bad luck any day".
