Sand Point Lighthouse is on the shores of Lake Michigan, in Escanaba. Karen Anderson Ham was there last week and snapped these photos of the ice shoves that came UP on the shore around the lighthouse. She said all the ice is out now, but it left these “ice heaves” there on the shoreline. They’re huge and must weigh a lot, which makes me wonder how long it will take for them to melt away. Or maybe wind and waves will pull and push them back out into Lake Michigan and they will melt as the waves wash them around in the lake. Someone should start a contest in the Escanaba area to guess when they’ll disappear for good. Might be a good fundraiser for a civic organization in the area.

We have a “feel good” video today from “A Chick Called Albert”, about a Cape Barren gosling this man hatched right in his hands...and then he saw her legs. They were splayed, which made walking impossible, so he made something using a simple rubber band to help her stand. She grew strong and was able to walk and run, because of his ingenuity. Check it out!

Cool looking chunks of ice. And the
Escanaba shoreline is fun to visit.

N-n-n-ice pix! Margaritas
all around.
And a happy ending video too!

How stunning. My grand niece swears that lighthouse
is haunted.

GREAT video...how easy is a rubber band? When
someone else would have destroyed it and called it
a day!! Beautiful ending.

What is life?

It is the flash of a firefly in the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.
It is the little shadow which runs across the grass
and loses itself in the sunset.

Congrats to Western Michigan on their National Championship in hockey! Of course they won it with the NMU Slukynsky brothers.............

"The NMU Slukynsky brothers"

My mind went straight the the movie "Slap Shot".
Apologies jbuck.

What year was that big shove in Big Traverse Bay?
That was scary. Looked like a lava flow.

Donna:
Don't show her this photo.

No problem, D. A. (Midwested)!

St. Louis has been very good to Michigan teams - including Tech.

Wishing the Pasty family a blessed Palm Sunday.

For real! lol It took me a bit....

Nice pics and a buildup of ice for the taking. lol

That's pretty funny D.A., yes, they left and saw the
handwriting on the wall for NMU. Huge congrats to
the WMU hockey program and their first National
Championship.
Our program needs to be blown up and started all
over again, last year was simply brutal and I see
nothing so far to say it's going to be any better
this Fall.

It was the Hanson brothers in "Slap Shot", demonstrating "Old Time Hockey".

How times have changed.
I left Tech in 1976 so I was there during the tail end of the MTU/John MacInnes mini-dynasty. There were only 2 leagues in Division-1 hockey, the WCHA and ECAC.

I pretty much quit following college hockey as it was not popular enough to make it on TV where I lived. Ten years later I was dumbfounded to learn that the Frozen Four winner was Lake Superior State. WHAT?

Now there are 9 Division-1 leagues and 138 colleges with a men's hockey program and 112 with a women's program. The WCHA is now a women only league! Sigh.

Should be interesting when I arrive in Kalamazoo in a couple weeks for the minerals show that I am presenting at. Will have to pick me and Nat up a National Champion t-shirt while I'm there.
