Those WIND (Women In New Directions) ladies take part in an outing of some type every Wednesday. If the weather isn’t conducive to being in the outdoors, they usually do a craft of some type, but when he weather cooperates, the ladies are outside taking in the beauty here UP North. This past week they went to McLain State Park for a walk-around on the shores of Lake Superior. The first three photos were snapped by Judy Byykkonen who commented that it was such a delight to be out walking through the trees and by the Lake. Judy captured a great shot of the Keweenaw Waterway Upper Entry Light. You can see there’s still plenty of snow out there, along with ice along the shoreline, but the sunshine warms it all UP.

The bottom three photos were taken by Beth Jukuri, capturing the ladies heading out on a walkway to check out the shoreline. Beth grabbed a couple good shots that if you look closely, you can see ice floes out there in the distance floating in Lake Superior. Before too long, the warming temperatures and sunshine will be melting it all and the season of white will be done for the most part. (I hope!)

As promised yesterday, we have Part 2 of Discovering the U.P. as they cover the story and the ongoing monitoring of the moose herd here in the U.P., along with the host, Kristin Ojaniemi’s report on the cougar cubs we featured back on March 18th.

The blues in these pictures are just
gorgeous! Nice job, ladies.

My thoughts exactly, Deb!
I’ve got those beautiful
UP blues. You can’t beat em.
Just magnificent!

By Donna (Donna) on Friday, April 4, 2025 - 10:54 am:

How incredibly beautiful!

AND, according to the Keweenaw Reporter:

As it stands, according the records from Michigan
Technological University, 2024-25 currently ranks
as the fourth snowiest winter in the Keweenaw
peninsula since recording started in 1890.

I know not everyone is thrilled, but I sure
am....Mother Nature sure made up for last year!
