When Nancy Haun is out and about in the Baraga/L’Anse area, she always finds something interesting to share with us. She explains the first shot of the Baraga Marina Gazebo, saying how she was standing on the old Nestor’s Mill property at the end of M-38 in Baraga, looking westerly toward the head of the bay and the Bishop Baraga Shrine. While she was exploring there, a Snowy Owl flew up from a low spot right in front of her and then landed on the roof of the Gazebo. She took the photo from a long ways away and wasn’t sure about what looked like another owl on the roof. Getting closer she could see it was a “decoy” owl, so the Snowy Owl was with his fake friend up there and Nancy thought... Will the real Owl please flap your wings!
Another treat from Nancy...a video of the trains performing a shove move across US41 and the Falls River, into the Koppers plant in L’Anse. I had to look “shove move” up to be sure what it means: “A railroad shove move is the process of pushing a train from the rear or a cut of cars.” After watching the video this makes perfect sense.

Well I learned one thing today. What the shove move means. Does anybody know what a train with engine in front and back is called? Have them all the time going by the house with empty and loaded coal cars. Some times the powder trains are shove move but they are only 3-4 cars long. But they do have to come back down with the empties eventually. And ours squeal just as much as yours in Baraga when going around a curve.
Never a good sign when the empties go up early in the morning since that means that they just might come back down at 4 am. Just love that alarm clock. It is all most as bad as the snow plow on bare pavement.

I love these. Very cool. It's always fun to see a snowy owl. They're so pretty.

Wvyooper, I have heard those trains are referred to as "pull & push", We often see those here sometimes with an additional engine in the middle for distribution power.

I remember going out to that Gazebo and taking pics, after that huge storm that filled the road between Baraga and L'Anse and threw all the logs up in L'Anse park. Totally different look then!
Watching President Carter's funeral. Just wow. We sure don't have many folks made like him anymore. God Bless you Sir.

These pix are a hoot! I wonder if they’re having an affair or maybe their BFF’s just keeping it platonic. At first I thought Nancy ran this video in reverse. This is the first time I’ve seen a train move cars that way. “You can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train. So, I'd best be on my way in the early morning rain.” (Gordon Lightfoot)
