If you were paying attention a week or so ago, Uncle Chuck (a.k.a Chuck Paulson) mentioned he had just returned home after a quick trip to the Keweenaw, along with a short stop to say hello to my hubby and I. It’s always good to see this guy, but this time we also got to meet his buddy and road-tripping partner, Marty. Some of you may recall the stories that Uncle Chuck has relayed about Marty and getting stuck in the beaver dam on the way to Keystone Bay, so it was fun to meet the beaver dam legend in person.

Anyway, Uncle Chuck shares a few photos with us from their recent excursion to the Keweenaw. A bit of exploring around the Little Gratiot River Wilderness preserve. Then on to High Rock Bay in Marty’s pickup. They had the place to themselves, no one else around, just them and the Lake Superior waves. Bonus was the weather was unseasonably warm, in the 60’s that day. They made many other stops here in the Keweenaw, and plenty of exploring too. Uncle Chuck said that he grew up with Marty since they were three years old and had a great time on this trip, acting like they were sixteen again.

This video from 906 Images is the perfect accompaniment to today’s photos. The lead-in states: “I could sit for hours watching the mighty Lake Superior crash the Rocky shoreline!! The colorful Sunrise was an added bonus.” I couldn’t agree more.

What great pictures! And great to see UC and Marty back in the YOOP enjoying themselves in some of their favorite places! So happy for you guys!

Nice pix, UC! It’s good to see you
getting UP there.
And I like the Pro 4X, that’s the truck that
I had before I sold it to my nephew.
It was black and has a Rockford Fosgate stereo
with a subwoofer…incredible sound!
Sweet video too… love the sound of the waves!

Nice pics, UC. So glad you were able to get back
UP and what great weather you had.

The video is nice also.

Even though I hate to admit it, but the Keystone Bay beaver dam got us once too. The worst part about it was it was completely my fault, and in Dr Nat's truck no less... :/

Been to Highrock several times. The last time we were there, the black flies literally chased us off and halfway back to Copper Harbor. One of the times though we stopped at Schlatter Lake and hooked into a large Northern Pike from shore. Good times...

In an email today (from Farmer's Almanac)

Leaves… which fall early, indicate winter will be mild. When leaves fall late, winter will be wild. An extra cold winter is in store if the leaves wither on the branches in October instead of falling.

“When leaves fall early, Fall and winter will be mild; When leaves fall late, Winter will be severe.”

We had a great time exploring some trails we hadn't
been on before and the weather was really
incredible. We pulled into Jim & Mary's driveway and
Jim came out from the barn, probably wondering who's
driving that truck, it doesn't look like a ford! :-)
Always nice to see Jim & Mary.
It was really windy at High Rock that day, but
coming out from Copper Harbor beforehand, the temp
was 64 degrees at the General Store. Great trip,
sorry I didn't really have any better pics than
those, I always forget to take them. lol

Great times U.C.
I am SO jealous, but also very glad you guys got in some good times this year. And there's always next year too....

The only time I've been to Keystone Bay is when I hiked in from Copper Harbor, way back in the 1970's. I camped there and another night at High Rock Bay. Almost no one ever drove out there back then.
