We had stormy weather last week when fall and winter collided here in the Keweenaw. Depending where you are, the snow accumulated to 8” and more before it was all over and for the most part has receded and melted. The forecast for this week is a possibility of some more of the white stuff, but maybe not accumulating much on the ground. Whew…

Anyway, Joy Ziemnick captured some beautiful shots out at Cedar Bay with the storm clouds rolling over Lake Superior as fall and winter meshed together. Quite dramatic, yet stunning with the sun highlighting what is left of the fall color on the trees, along with the white on the ground and clinging to the branches and leaves.

Meanwhile in Sault Ste. Marie, MI Playground takes us kayaking the St. Marys River with freighters, wildlife and fall color. Bundle up, it’s cold out there on the water.

At my age, after a lifetime of shoveling it and driving in it, I hate to see the first onset of every Winter. But there has always been something magical about that first and early snowfall when it happens before all the Color is done popping.

I took the top one south of Watersmeet and the second along a back road near Old Victoria and the Reservoir.

Remember folks...gas and oil has sprinkled all over
the roads all summer long. The first snows, bring
that all up, and that's why it's SO slippery the
first few snows...be careful out there~

There's something so calming about these
pictures. I know that sounds strange since
they're snowy pictures, but there's still so
much beauty and serenity there. Great shots,

The detail and lighting of the clouds in Joy's shots are amazing. The burst of distant sunlight in the last one and all the blue skies were all captured wonderfully.

The pair of brothers that do MI Playground are pretty wild guys. And their videos are the perfectly short length.
