We’re back in the air with E. Neil Harri, this time flying over Mount Baldy, also known as Mount Lookout. I don’t know about you, but I never get tired of seeing these spectacular views from Neil!

I’ve never hiked Mt. Baldy in the winter, but I would say you’d need snowshoes for the 6.4 miles to the top and back down again. In the spring or summer, there’s a creek to cross which would be more difficult in the spring when the snow is melting. There’s an interesting description on this hiking page: HikingProject.com, that says:

“This hike starts from a parking lot (not plowed in the winter) and goes to a split with a small parking area. Go right to stay on the nature trail and continue your ascent. You'll cross a creek and make a couple winding turns until you finally pop out of the woods into a clearing, this is the first top and means you are almost there.

You'll descend a little before beginning the final climb to the top of Mt. Baldy. From the top, you can see several lakes and small towns in the Keweenaw as well as Brockway Mountain and other well-known geographical markers in the area.”
I remember the first time I hiked Mt. Baldy, I got to what the above description calls the “first top” and the view was hindered by trees and such. I thought to myself that this wasn’t much of a view and was beginning to be disappointed when I looked further ahead and realized I wasn’t at the top yet and had some more hiking to do. It was well worth the 6.4 mile hike once I got to the top, the view was outstanding with so much of the Keweenaw to see from UP there. I didn’t stay long the day I went, though, because it was in June and the bugs were atrocious.

We’re joining Nick and Andy from MI Playground in Ironwood at SnowRiver Mountain Resort, which consists of two mountains. No hiking here, though, we’ll be riding snowboards. Strap on your helmet and goggles, here we go... !!

Another nice set of pix…thanks Neil!

And I could definitely get into boarding if I was in better shape.

More awesome pictures from Neil. He must
love his trips up high.
Snowboarding looks like so much fun. I love
the Olympic snowboarders. So much fun to
watch.

I'd love to do Mt Baldy someday.
6.4 miles?
How rough is the trail?
How much of a climb is it (elevation change)?

Wouldn't it be great to be Neil's neighbor
and maybe get invited to ride along?

Neil, just fantastic pics, thanks for the fly
along. D.A. you're right, lol it would be cool to
be Neil's neighbor and get to go along for the
ride!! You'd also have a cool home I think right
in Eagle Harbor, although I'm not sure which one
is his there on the water. :=)

Nick & Andy, you guys have too much fun, lol.
You're both talented skiers and as far as "flowing
in and out of the trees" while you're blasting
down the mountain.... I don't think so!! I'd have
to alert the ER and please get my bed ready if I
were to attempt that maneuver!! :=))

And I'd be in the bed next door!!
