Debbie Jarve took advantage of the nice weather we had last weekend and took a cruise to snap a few photographs. She started out in Eagle River with a shot of the winter residents at the park there. The deer hang around these parts because the snow isn’t as deep on the shores of Lake Superior and the Sportsman club in the area also feeds them there, along with numerous visitors that stop to see the deer herded UP like this.

From there, Debbie made a quick stop to snap a shot of Jacob’s Falls, still running water, but with a border of snow around the edges, too. It hasn’t been cold enough for days in a row to freeze the falls yet. We’ve had some cold spells, even a few blizzard days, but it’s been a weird January with milder temps and rain.

Along the way several icy photos called to Debbie and she stopped to capture them. That third photo reminds me of a couple of giant paws, with some spiky claws. And that poor tree in the fourth photo. I always wonder if those branches ever recover when they get laden down with heavy ice like that.

The last stop for today’s photos was in Eagle Harbor on the Lighthouse campus there. It’s not that often that we get to see the lighthouse from this angle, as it seems most photographs are from M-26 or across the harbor from the marina. Nice to see her “other” side.

We’ve gone on a number of excursions looking for agates and other rocks, with Rob, from Michigan Rocks, but today we’re joining him in his home while he fills us in on how he got started working with rocks and how his YouTube channel, Michigan Rocks began.

All of these pictures are fantastic. Winter
sure is different from last year, but it's
made due some really great pictures and
hiking experiences.

Excellent pics! Still strange to see the big lake not frozen out from shore for a long way like it normally is this time of year. What a January eh?

Keweenaw pulled their snowmobile groomers. Some
trails have "knee deep" water holes. My grandniece
was up last weekend to play..she said they had a
good time up in Copper Harbor, but the Gay area had
the knee deep water hole. That's scary!

And HELLO ROB!

Hi Donna!

Thanks Debbie! The lighthouse picture is my favorite for just the reason Mary points out. It's not often we see that point of view!

Congratulations Rob!
