Winter is back! In many parts of the U.P. winter has returned. Judy Byykkonen woke up Saturday morning, looked out her windows and SNOW is what she saw from her Laurium home. Snow covering the pumpkins decorating the steps, snow covering the bushes and streets, snow everywhere. It didn’t take long and Judy was outside brushing the snow off her stairs and shoveling for the first time this new winter season. The snowfall varies in different areas UP North from inches to feet in some areas. I may be delusional, but I’m still hoping for a warm-up in temperatures that will melt this new fallen white stuff at least until mid-December. A girl can dream, right? Meanwhile, I’m sure the hunters are pleased with snow that makes it brighter in the woods and easier to see and track the deer.

We head to Tapiola, with a weather report from Karvakko’s Market. That’s pretty much what it looked like around these parts all weekend off and on. Karvakko’s message is: “Old man winter is back! Drive careful, the roads are slick!”

What a change…this requires an adjustment.

I sure do miss my daily visits to Sharon’s website.

Lol. Calumet/Laurium area got a little more
than we did down at the bottom of the hill,
but it is still snowing this morning. Time
for the body to reacclamate. Love the
pictures, though. All you can do is go with
the flow.

And yep, the video looks pretty much like
what we've been going through here.

It sorta looked like that just a bit ago. We got
some big stuff coming today...I think it's safe to
say, it's here to stay. This is on the puter this
morning:

Special Weather Statement issued November 14 at
3:53AM EST by NWS Marquette

...HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS EXPECTED THIS
AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...

An intense band of lake effect snow showers will
develop over the Keweenaw this afternoon and
continue into the overnight hours.

Generally 2 to 4 inches of snowfall can be
expected from Houghton north to Phoenix. Localized
amounts to 8 inches are possible where the snow
band becomes most persistent.

Those commuting during the evening should be
prepared for rapidly changing conditions over
short distances, with snow covered roads and
reduced visiblity below 1/2 mile at times.

Batten down the hatch!

We've probably gotten at least 2 just
sitting here while we're playing cribbage.
It's big, soft flakes and just pretty. Will
go shovel this afternoon.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, November 14, 2022 - 02:48 pm:

Just a reminder to get into shape before you start shoveling.

By George L. (Yooperinct) on Monday, November 14, 2022 - 04:23 pm:

Right, Alex, good thought. Speaking of shoveling, I always spray on and wipe down my shovel with silicone spray, it seems to help, both with powdery and wet snow. The snowblower gets it as well on the augers and in the chute. Bridge Cam looks like Heikke's taking up residence in the Copper Country in mid-November. Enjoy the snow!

Just a few hours too late, Alex. Omgosh I am
in such pain. We went out this afternoon and
there was 8 inches out there. We brought our
rulerout there. And it came down the whole
time we were shoveling too. We got probably
2 inches while shoveling. I finally gave up
trying to keep up lol. And since we've come
back in, there's 2 to 3 more inches. Just
wow!
Sure was glad we had homemade chicken noodle
soup to reheat.

I'm getting old, I can do without the snow right
now, maybe come January thru February, that's it
lol. Might have to get the RV headed southbound or
southwest. If I wanted to avoid FLA, Pasty family
because I think it's too crowded, where would you
recommend? Nashville perhaps or is that still too
cold? How about Vegas.... but I might get into
trouble there as much as I like the Blackjack
tables. Arizona maybe, pretty far away though. Oh
well it's really not up to me anyway, I just do the
driving. lol

Uncle Chuck..South Texas..Corpus Christy invirons..lot of areas to get away from the crowds (state parks)..lot of interesting half day trips around!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 - 01:35 pm:

UC, ever try Orange Beach or Gulf Shores,
AL? We love it down there. We usually go the
end of March for a week to 10 days. It's
gorgeous, not really crowded, and easy to
get around.
