Deb Simons and her hubby Ron knew just where to go recently when the winds were howling here in the Keweenaw. They headed to Bucky’s (a.k.a. Calumet Waterworks Park) to catch the wave action they knew would be happening there. Check out that first picture, that’s just as you head down the hill toward Calumet Waterworks Park...Deb said as a kid she remembers thinking they were going to head right into Lake Superior when they went over the edge. It kind of looks like it just drops off there. You can tell when you see this view with all the whitecaps on the Big Lake, that the waves are going to be rocking.

The rest of Deb’s shots show the fury of the Big Lake with the waves rolling in one after the other, with hardly a break in between. You can also see how stirred up the Lake bottom is, as the waves are sandy looking, not clear and blue as Superior looks normally. With the waves crashing onto the shore, Deb said there was hardly any beach left as the water was coming up so far.

In case you’re wondering how all this wind and waves sounded, Deb also made a short video. Pump UP the volume, Superior is in a mood!

That was so much fun to watch the waves. But
then it always is. We heard it's going to be
like that today and tomorrow also. It's hard
for Ron to find good rocks with the water
rolling so high on to the beach like that.
But he perseveres and enjoys the waves as
much as the rocks. There were two very
friendly, very huge dogs down there having a
blast with the waves. But they were so
friendly that they pushed Ron into the
drink. It wasn't funny or anything, and I
didn't laugh either, bwahaha. And I always
enjoy listening to the lake.

Thanks Deb and Mr Deb, great photos and video. I sure miss Bucky's, many great memories of fun times there!

Yupper yoopers, I used to live in that little green
house across the street from the old Calumet
Waterworks so I distinctly know every mood of the
big lake.
