And so it begins... that’s how Kathy Erkkila Ptaszek described her changing leaves photos. All across the Keweenaw, the trees are beginning their fall attire. Fall officially starts today on the calendar, so it’s only right that we start it here on the Pasty Cam, too. Even though I love the colors with the leaves changing, my favorite of Kathy’s shots is the fourth one with the acorns, pine needles and moss balls that she found under her feet on the trail at McLain State Park. The moss looks like stepping stones!

That’s 10 foot falls near Eagle River in the bottom photo. Kathy stopped to check it out after the recent rains and said it had really pumped up the volume of water. Those rains were much needed for the gardens, too.

Let’s join Suyeon Griffin, the Broken English Hiker and friends as they explore the Cliff Mine Ruins. Suyeon added this descriptioin: “The Cliff mine was the first successful copper mine in the Copper Country of the state of Michigan in the United States. The mine is at the now-abandoned town of Clifton in Keweenaw County. Mining began in 1845, and the Cliff was the most productive copper mine in the United States from 1845 through 1854.”

I will be back UP next week.

I'm jealous again as I have never made it to the Cliffs overlook...still looking for the route to drive up. I know it's possible.

not ready for it.
