When Laurie Bashaw and her husband Ed were returning from their sled dog adventure which we covered yesterday, they made several stops along the way. We’re going to cover them today and tomorrow, so be sure to stay tuned.

Their first stop was at Whitefish Point, where they walked around the campus of the Lighthouse & Museum. Everything is closed this time of year, but they still explored the grounds, checking out the icy shoreline and the Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial by the walkway/deck that goes out to the shoreline. They ended up at the Harbor there, which you can see from the photos, was pretty frozen. Laurie said the temperature was -14 when they started out, but they heard the windchill was -31. She said her hands and face have never hurt so much from the cold, but she said it was worth it to see it all.

The video featured today, is shared by Trekers when they made a January visit in 2019. They also felt the area was a treasure worth seeking

Wonderful pictures. I would have never
braved those temps. But I'm glad that she
did!!

Visited here during the summer about 20 years ago.
Loved the museum and lighthouse. But the
blackflies were horrendous. I must have used fly
bait instead of deodorant that day.

Great pics & video and a great place to visit and
learn about all the great lake ship wrecks. I've
been there a few times, very informative and
really enjoyed it. Kinda eerie knowing that the
Fitz is at the bottom out there not all that far
away.
Back in the days at NMU when mother nature was
really kickin up a fuss, we'd walk into our
favorite watering holes and inevitably the wreck
of the fitz would be playing on the jukebox and
the discussion of how she sank would start all
over again.

UC, one of those watering holes wouldn't have been the infamous "Library" now, would it? Of course, never studied there meeself.......well.... maybe...

lol George... only when in Houghton!! I don't recall
a "Library Pub" in Marquette, but I could be
mistaken.

Every Tuesday night we'd go to the "Furnace" in
Marquette and throw back a few with the locals after
studying a bit. We didn't have early classes the
next day. I believe the place is still called the
Wooden Nickel now. Great memories.
