What a beautiful way to start the day. Barbara Bouwkamp recently enjoyed the sunrise out at Big Traverse, when she was heading back to town, but then stopped to take it all in. The sun on the trees, lighting up the reflections in the water. Then after a quick rainfall, a rainbow appeared to make a wonderful morning that much better. Just look at the way the sun is making the white of the birch trees even whiter. When you start your day with the beauty that surrounds you, it makes the rest of your day go well, too and if the day starts going south, then you can reflect back on the beauty you began the day with.

Today’s video is a full episode of “Under the Radar”, featuring a Journey to the Center of the U.P., courtesy of Detroit Public TV. Just one warning...they head to Trenary, so if your mouth begins watering for some of the delicious toast they talk about, you can order your own bag and while you’re at it, throw in a few pasties, too. Place your orders here: Pasties and more.

Remembering the Fitz and all the good men lost on her on November 10th. God rest their souls.

Greetings:

Anyone. I'm not a tree x-pert.

In the first photo, "Sunrise Reflections" it appears to be a lot of dead pine tress in the forefront.

Did the trees die from high water or the Pine Beetle? The Copper Country doesn't need the pine beetle.

Can't believe it's been 46 years since the Fitz disaster. May God bless the crew and family/friends. Never forget.

J T (Jtinchicago),

Maybe the trees in the picture are tamaracks and just dropping their needle like 'leaves'. Hope so anyway!

Good morning! Remembering the Fitz today
and the families of those who were lost that
fateful day. Yesterday I did a lot of
reading about that horrible day in history.
I learned much. It's just so sad even all
these years later.

I was going to say what jbuck did. There
are many pine trees that got burned here and
there from fire. But I'm not sure that's
what happened here.

Beautiful pictures. That double rainbow
puts a smile on your face for sure. And
yes, the whites on the birch trees seem to
pop. Thanks for sharing these with us.

Happy hump day to all. Enjoy it, as
tomorrow brings rain and heavy winds. Might
have to head out to da lake to check on
waves. Enjoy!

Remembering the Fitz and Eddie.

Yes, Alex, remembering Eddie too.

Just watched the Split Rock Lighting Ceremony in honor of the Fitz:
