It isn’t every day that you get to watch the expanse before you morph into a completely different landscape, but it seems that is what George C. Bailey witnessed on the shores of Dans Point, west of Copper Harbor. If you’ve been following the Pasty Cam for a while, you’ve seen the photos George has shared throughout all the seasons, of his Lake Superior shoreline. Today’s shots show an other worldly look, like we’re on a different planet or we were somehow transported to Antarctica. The last two photos of the Ice Volcano are quite impressive when you think that the action of the wind and waves creates these “blow holes” or “volcanoes of ice”. It must be something to see when the water is splashing up out of nature’s creation.

Winter weather expert, Tom Niziol explains what these ice volcanoes that erupt water are, how they form and the dangers to be aware of, in today’s video.

It just show us how dangerous Lake Superior can
be at any time of the year! As dangerous as it
is, the beauty of it takes my breathe away!

Ever changing land/seascape. A new view everyday.

I’m with you Mary, what planet is this?
I’m waiting for some giant ants to start climbing out,
giant ice ants that is.
