The snow is pretty, covering the trees and surroundings in Ahmeek. Cathy McKenzie shares a few shots she snapped of the fresh fallen snow this past week. As pretty as it is, us Yoopers are ready for it to let UP or STOP for a little while. Why you say? Well, we’ve gotten 50+ inches of snow this past week and it’s still snowing and blowing. I’m not sure if you can feel it in Cathy’s photos, but it’s also been really cold, with winds making the wind chill even colder, too. We had been behind in snowfall up to last week, but we’re quickly closing in on last year’s total now.

To get an idea of the snowbanks along the side of the roads, we’re taking a ride through Mohawk with E. Neil Harri and Sally. Sally is Neil’s four-legged family member, who he says requires a daily ride, so we’ll have to take a back seat to her!

Hey Capt Paul and Dr Nat - hope your power is on!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 10:06 am:

Our power is on, but for many it isn't. We got about 3-4 inches last night and the news is treating it like it's apocalyptic!!! ;-)

This is out front of our house...

SE-MI is next, Capt. Paul. Is that the very
popular Pasty.com mail box that I see in the 2nd
pic and where can I get one?

By George L. (Yooperinct) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 11:44 am:

Alex, you had me going on that Pasty.com mailbox for a minute there . . ! Good one!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 11:54 am:

Those Texans aren't used to that!

So you aren't part of the rolling blackouts they are doing? Guess windmills don't provide much electricity when they are frozen!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 12:10 pm:

So far, no. However, Nat's father hasn't had power since midnight and he lives a mile away. There's no guarantee that we'll keep power either, but thus far our power has stayed on. I'm hoping we don't lose it tonight; predicted low out here is 7!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 03:47 pm:

Yikes!

Maybe Dr Nat's Dad will have to come over for a visit. This would be when i turned the heat a bit higher than normal 'just in case'.

By Donna (Donna) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 05:21 pm:

WOW...hope you all keep your electricity and heat!
You are gonna get cold....batten down the hatch!!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 06:31 pm:

I hope you packed your long's John.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 06:33 pm:

What are the chances, UC?

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 09:28 pm:

So, no need for Cap'n Paul & Dr. Nat to head to da UP, da UP comes to Cypress, TX instead!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Monday, February 15, 2021 - 09:39 pm:

Glad we are more prepared for the storms - depending on how much snow we get by midnight we may set a new record for the date. We look like the Winter Wonderland shown in the pictures & video today. Thanks Cathy and Neil!

By D. A. (Midwested) on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 - 12:00 am:

I think everyone is now ready for this to end. It looks like the 1st 4 months of winter were a bit mild in the Keweenaw so maybe you've got some catching up to do? The Lake isn't at all frozen over so the lake effect snow will keep coming, at least for awhile.

I get my 2nd covid vax tomorrow though, unless it gets cancelled due to the cold.
