Jean Dessellier was at it again, capturing several outstanding photos of the Wolf Moon, the first full moon for 2021. If you’re wondering how the Wolf Moon was named, here’s some interesting information found on the “Old Farmer’s Almanac” webpage:

The full Moon names used by The Old Farmer’s Almanac come from a number of places, including Native American, Colonial American, and European sources. Traditionally, each full Moon name was applied to the entire lunar month in which it occurred, not just to the full Moon itself. It’s thought that January’s full Moon came to be known as the Wolf Moon, because wolves were more often heard howling at this time.
It is also thought that Full Moon names were used to describe and remember what happened in the past and to remind of what was likely to come in the near future.

No matter how each full moon is named, they’re still pretty impressive to see. This one was so bright, I could see shadows of the pine trees in our yard, in the middle of the night. Quite a treat to see so well without artificial lighting in the night like that.

Just in case you’re needing a bit of peaceful calm for the middle of the work week, Steve Brimm has you covered. Check out his video of 20 minutes of Serenity at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park in Copper Harbor. I agree...well needed peacefulness!
And all my life, I've never been mooned like that.

Hi
Speaking of wolves, the long-running study of
wolves on Isle Royale got cancelled this year.
Per TV9& 10 news:

"The coronavirus pandemic has interrupted an
Isle Royale wildlife study.

Since 1959, a research team has observed
interactions between moose and wolves at the
Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior
every winter. But this year’s study has been
cancelled due to coronavirus concerns.
According to Superintendent Denise Swanke,
researchers use a single cabin, which would not
allow for proper social distancing.

She also says border closure between the United
States and Canada, and a shortage of flight
resources to bring supplies also factored into
cancelling the winter study."
