We had such beautiful weather last weekend, lots of folks were out hiking and exploring. Including Eric Byykkonen and his family. They took the hike to the top of Mt. Houghton and the trail reminded me of the yellow-brick road in the Wizard of Oz, only this trail was more of a fall-leaf road. Can’t you just hear the crunch of the leaves underfoot there and the smell of fall in the air...beautiful. Of course the crowning glory is the first photo, with the view from the top, of Bete Grise, Lac La Belle. If you look in all directions from up there, you’ll also see Mt. Bohemia, Mt. Horace Greely, Bare Bluff and Keystone Point. I’m not sure how long a hike it is, so chime in if you know.

Mt. Bohemia was mentioned as being seen from Mt. Houghton, so let’s check out Mt. Bohemia also today, with Remote Workforce Keweenaw

Smarter every day. I didn't know there was an easier way up other than the lift chairs.

After some research I've discovered there are actually several hiking and biking trails in the immediate area.

trails

Now if one were adventurous (and young and fit) you could head straight up the shortest slope and it's less than 1/2 mile.

After some analysis I think the most likely route is as follows and is about 1.2 miles (one way).

Great pics & video!! The top pic has always been
a favorite of mine, I have the same shot from
being in that same spot.
When my pal Marty and I were 16, we did hike up
the face of Bohemia from the Lac La Belle
mailboxes right by the marina. I don't remember
how long it took but it wasn't all that long. We
also drove up as far as we could in the 4WD truck
and hiked up to the top of MT Houghton a few
times, the rest of the way didn't take all that
long. I miss the fire tower that used to be at
the top of MT Bohemia ... talk about a fantastic
view!!
Now Marty wants to try and drive his truck up
MT Bohemia starting from the parking lot/log
restaurant/ pool area!! I think I'll wait at the
bottom of the hill and provide his bail after the
Sheriff takes him away, or meet him at the
hospital after rolling end over end back down the
hill !! :=))

I went up the Mt Bohemia fire tower in the 70s, it was very exciting.
