Benji Hainault likes to keep his family active, so he gets them out hiking some of the great trails around the Keweenaw. Yesterday they took on the Bare Bluff trail near Lac La Belle. Benji said it was a nice hike while in the woods, but as soon as they got out into the open, the kids had to put there jackets back on, because it was a bit chilly with the wind blowing. The kids enjoyed seeing the BIG trees and the HUGE rocks at the top of Bare Bluff, along with a view all the way to the tip of the Keweenaw.

There are two routes to the top of Bare Bluff. One is a bit easier than the other and a shorter route, but both bring you to the view you see in Benji’s photos here today.

Our video is an episode of Discovering about Copper Harbor and why you should include a visit there in your vacation plans.

Hi
Wish we had scenery like that at our local parks
and nature centers. Though I think that trail
would test my fitness. ;)

Love it...Bare Bluff, my first hike.

Fantastic pic's & video! One of my favorite spots
and land marker!! Grandpa Norm ashes are straight
out from the bluff in a 100ft of water. Well most
likely fish food by now, lol

Hey, I recognize that rock and perch. Bare Bluff is one of my favorite spots to be (right behind Isle Royale). My goal is to make it back up the bluff at least once during Fall bloom, assuming I can get my back healed up.

Kathy,
The trail is not very difficult. Of course there is the elevation climb and a bit of up and down but the parking lot is only a couple hundred feet lower than the bluff. Most of the trail is quite smooth with only a couple of challenging spots. Just make sure to go clockwise going in (take a left at the junction where the sign with the map is located and use the northern trail) and then retrace counterclockwise returning.
