Nancy Haun is always exploring somewhere and snaps photos to share of places that I’ve never even heard of, like today’s shots and video of the Rock Cut for the Iron Range & Huron Bay Railroad on Mt. Arvon. I was shocked at the amount of ice and snow there in that “cut” and I asked her about that. She said inside that cut the temperature is always colder in there than on the outside of the cut walls. She said some years she’s gone to check it out and the trees on the outside of the cut were already leafed out and green grass growing, yet inside the cut there is still snow and ice. We did get a little May snow on Friday, but not enough to make all that ice, too.

To accompany her video, Nancy added this description: “This short clip from the IR & HB RR shows the beauty and folly of those men from the 1890's who really thought they could build a RR through the high section of Mt. Arvon - they built it alright - at high cost monetarily and in human life due to fever and maggot infested food. The Railroad was doomed almost from the beginning but never more so than when the first trial run proved a disaster and the engine went off the trestle and onto the lowland. It did not even make it to the grade abutment. This cut was just stunning Friday, it was 30 degrees outside the cut and about 15 degrees in the cut!” Interesting information!

Interesting, rather gothic looking pix and video!

Cool pic's & video! I agree Alex, maybe a cross between a Yes/Led Zeppelin Album cover....

Agreed UC, or an early Uriah Heep album cover.

JBuck & All,... Thanks for asking btw.. Haven't heard from U of M yet as to a rescheduled date. I feel good and I'm not considered life threatening and with all that's going on around the world... I really don't want to set foot in a hospital until July or later to be honest. I've been talking to my some of my old accounts (hospitals) and they are saying times are still very much chaotic throughout the Health Systems. So... unless I develop issues... I'm good "Sheltering at Home".

Would love to road trip it North, but knowing what I know of the MI Health Systems, they don't need visitors bringing the virus North, it's simply too soon and they are basically equipped to handle their own population and even if one is not ill they could carry it North for sure!! Just one's opinion of 30 years plus of Healthcare Sales and knowing how they function.... that and .85 cents might buy you a cup of coffee... lol :=))

Happy Monday All! Be safe!!
