When you’re exploring in the great outdoors here in the Copper Country, it’s “social distancing” without even making an effort to do so. Melanie Hakala Rossi and her friends make a trek to the top of the Cliffs in the Phoenix area of the Keweenaw over the weekend. They started at the base of the Cliffs and followed the snowmobile trail up to the top, which made it a bit easier going than breaking trail on the mile long climb UP there. What a magnificent view from the top of those Cliffs, different looking all covered in snow, versus the summer trips to the top where everything below is lush and green. I especially enjoyed the last photo, with Finley standing all by himself and down below you can see the Cliff Drive accentuated quite clearly by the white snow covering the road. It looks like it goes on forever!

We have a snowshoe adventure from SeekingDiscovery videoed a year ago at the Houghton Breakers at North Canal Township Park. Another great place to get out, get moving and enjoy!
Stay safe, stay healthy and help others when you can safely do so… practice kindness.

OH my gosh!! That first picture brought back one of my childhood memories that I will never forget.

I wonder if Melanie and her friends knew about that over hanging drift or did they get lucky.

When I was 7 or 8 I went ice skating with my friend at the lake of his grandfather near Grand Rapids. We were done skating and walked back up to the house on a steep hill from the lake. I spotted a small hole in the snow and the curiosity of an 8 year hold got the better of me. Despite the warnings from my friend I got too close and the overhanging drift gave out. It was a septic tank with cover removed for maintenance. I was up to my chest in you know what. My friend went to the house yelling, "Don fell in the hole!" Next he knew was all the adults were running down to lake with a ladder and rope thinking of course something worse had happened. They finally lowered the ladder and I got out. The next shock was when I was standing in the driveway, totally naked while they hosed me off.

I guess I should of had snow shoes.

Ewwwwwwww D. A. (Midwested)!! Glad it wasn't any fuller! Did they burn your clothes? That's one for the books!

And here my first reaction was for Finley's safety because he was so close to the edge.

I'll bet you had to take a lot of crap for that maneuver D.A..

Beautiful photos and ALL to close to the edge for me!! Finley is a great looking dog and I'm with my NMU Alum/Jbuck, way to close to the edge, yikes!!

D.A. I'm glad you're okay, btw... how tall are you and did you shoot up in height the year after? :-)) Great story, sorry but... you did make me laugh out loud!! - Thanks!

Alex, I knew you'd have a clever response!! lol

Lastly, Great outing on that video!! Nice choices Mary!!

Come to think of it,
I DID have a growth spurt shortly thereafter.

I never saw those clothes again.
I remember riding home wrapped in a blanket.
