If you’re a downhill skier, you’ll be happy to know that Ski Brule in Iron River has been making snow and actually opened for the season last weekend. Brandi Rivest and her family were there to take advantage of the opening day at the ski hill. She shares photos from the bottom of the hill with people getting ready to take the ski lift to the top and then her brother, heading down one of the slopes. The last photo is Brandi’s daughter and she actually found the photo of her on the Ski Brule Facebook page, with over 200 other photos from the first day opening. What a fun shot!

The video for today, was advertising the opening day last weekend, but I found it fascinating to see how they made the snow, piled up and then with a plow of sorts, push it around to fill in on the slopes, so people can start skiing before the natural snow finally gets deep enough to ski.

I always wanted to do that as a kid but it was an
expensive sport and we couldn't afford it. But I
did ski down some of the hills we have there in
Lake Linden and that was fun. I think that's as
big a challenge as I would have been up to though.
It amazes me when I watch the Olympics or World
Championship skiing at just how fast they go.
Scares the bejesus out of me. Fun pictures!

Nice Pic's & video... but my joints started to ache watching the video!! lol

I tried it a couple of times years ago, just missing a few kids and adults, couldn't stop when I got to the bottom and had to sit down to avoid smashing thru a fence and skidding out into the parking lot!! Then I couldn't stand back up until I kicked off my skis!! Niece's and Nephew's almost wet their pants laughing!! At least water skiing is a little softer, "little softer"!!

Picture your fat uncle turning into a giant runaway snowball and try and sleep tonight!! :=))

I'm sorry but I'm done with winter. I know that sounds like it's bordering on a sacrilegious statement given the moment but I'm fed up being cold and snowed in.

On a side note I see via Marine Traffic the U.S.C.G Cutter Alder is presently moored along West Lakeshore Drive in Houghton. I wonder if they ever wake up on a Saturday Morning and everyone walks across the street for a delicious Roy's Breakfast Pasty. I think they're closed on Sundays (Roy's that is, the Coast Guard NEVER closes).

You're right D.A., the CG never closes. Will never forget my first duty station (the old Portage Station near McLain) and we had to stand radio watches 24/7, even tho in winter the lake was mostly completely frozen over and there was NO ship traffic at all, as the Soo locks were closed. Good example of "military intelligence"!

Happy snow time. I work at Bittersweet Ski Resort in West Lower Michigan. They opened for this season on Thursday the 14th. I've been waiting for this day since April.
