More aerial shots from E. Neil Harri showing some of the late fall colors from a week or so ago, along with the Big Traverse and Gay Sands dredging project. It looks like the dredging is done for this season, at least. This look from above really gives you a perspective of the scope of that project, when you realize the distance they pumped that sand across the shoreline, from Big Traverse to the mitigation ponds in Gay. They worked 24 hours a day all summer long pumping the gray sands out of the channel and away from the shoreline at Big Traverse. With the wind and waves the past couple weeks, it makes one wonder how long it will take for the sands to build up there again.

Our video takes us on a color tour to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Buckle up and enjoy the drive.

This makes no sense to me. Why would you pump the sand upcurrent, knowing that longshore drift will eventually carry the sands back to Big Traverse? I suppose they know what they are doing, but still.....

It's always seemed so strange to me that one
side of nu big traverse has gray sand and the
other has the beautiful white sand. Great
pictures, as always.

The video was mesmerizing.

Capt. Paul ... it"s called "job security"

What a shame that the projects to use the sands have not worked out. It would solve so many problems and end this endless process.

Capt Paul.

I think when you're short on money and still need to do something it starts to make some sort of sense to begin "pushing the roping". Without the trucking infrastructure and commitment as to where to put it, moving it "back up the hill" provides some sort of temporary relief.
