These train tracks run behind the Bishop Baraga Shrine on Keweenaw Bay. Nancy Haun captured both scenes from the tracks, all surrounded in Autumn colors. Sure looks like a great place to go for a walk and just take in all that color wrapping around you and the tracks. It kind of reminds me of the “yellow brick road” only I guess this would have to be the “yellow leaf road”, instead.

A day or two before she took the railroad track photos, Nancy happened to catch a train going by, headed from L’Anse toward Baraga. She said she was surprised, because there had already been published in the newspaper, an intent to not service this part of the track anymore. Someone else informed her that they were actually “evaluating” the tracks and even though they intend to no longer use this portion, they still have to regularly “test” them as scheduled, until the point and time that it’s actually “abandoned”. Turn up your speakers to hear the bells and whistles as it goes on by.

As a kid we spent so much time up behind our
house walking, what we called, the first &
second tracks. We had so much fun. Things have
sure changed up there.

I wish all of the trains out here were that
short. There have been times that I've spent at
least 10 minutes at the crossing, waiting for
the train to end. At times I have been late for
work. Every day there are many, many trains
that go through this town. Very cool when I'm
not being held up.
