Plenty of folks are getting tired of the snow and cold, but here UP North itís still winter and so we continue with the snowy scenes. Heading back to 2007 for our first photo, with Karl Berg, in Kearsarge. Nice view of the Centennial Mine Shaft #6, located nearby the Hut Inn (Home to Pasty Central and the Pasty Kitchens).

The 2009 archive photo was snapped by Justin Baetsen while on an excursion to the Pictured Rocks. He was actually hiking and winter camping, capturing the shoreline along the way. Justin didnít want to lug the weight of a tent for the entire hike, so he opted to dig out a snow cave and then used a space blanket (hi-tech plastic tarp) to wrap himself in his sleeping bag for the night. Thatís some tough camping!

Our third adventurer took to the icy shoreline in the Freda area for a hike around the shoreline cliffs out there. Melanie Hakala Rossi and friends were out there snowshoeing last weekend when she snapped this photo with the Freda Smokestack in view.

Matthew McCormick shot todayís video back in 2015. Neat to get an aerial drone view of the mining ruins and the icy shoreline, too.

Couldn't imagine winter camping in the snow like Justin did in a snow cave wrapped up in bag and space blanket! Urrgh! Spring is how many days away now?

I've had to camp in the Arctic using only a snow hut and an all weather blanket wrapped around my sleeping bag. It actually wasn't that bad, but granted, it was a still night with no wind so I'm sure that made a difference.

Sorry I haven't been writing in a lot here lately. It's been quite busy with work and life in general. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the PastyCam, just other projects going on and such.......

Capt Paul, good to see you come up for air occasionally...life never seems to slow down, more spinning around each day!

Some friends and I did a little (very little) winter camping around Lake Gratiot back in the day. It seemed like all of our energy was spent just staying alive. Even with the correct equipment it still takes a lot of effort. It was fun and worth it but not something I'd like to do all the time.

Nice to see you again Captain.

The stamp mill ruins in Freda used to really be much more ruinous than they are today. There has been a large effort to clean them up. It used to be quite the dangerous place, but that also made it more popular.

As a photographer for the MTU yearbook, I took this "official" photo of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity in 1973. You can see from the surroundings a bit of what things were like back then.

Nice review, 2009 is just cool! Winter camping outside..... I don't think so! Log cabin with a nice Nippa Stove when they were made in Bruce Crossing..... that I could do! Outhouse, bring my own water, no problem. What a wimp I am!! lol
