A lofty view of the Straits from Dan Vaught to begin our week - Fort, Bridge, Island, Hotel - and lots of ice and snow. Like me, you might find the viewing experience enhanced by turning down the volume ;)

For many people, the Bridge is their first impression of Michigan's remote northern peninsula. Seeing it at night or in daylight is impressive, bigger than life. And when they roll off the bridge onto this enchanted land, they find the whole U.P. to be just as impressive and exciting. I had my first crossing as a teenager back in the '60's, and knew I had to come back, which our family did in 1975 moving to Marquette, then in 1988 to the Copper Country. 10 years later we began this daily exploration known as the Pasty Cam. (March 1, 1998). What an adventure it continues to be...

Have a good week :o)

love the video.

Great video. How were we ever satisfied with earlier film and video of anything before the advent of the drone?

The Mighty Mac and I are the same age. I was born in Grand Rapids, the same month and year construction of the bridge began in May of '54. I have very vague memories of crossing it as a toddler and better ones later in childhood during vacations. But it wasn't until I reached adulthood that I chose to return as a semi-permanent/temporary resident. Now we're back to vacations.

I agree D.A....nicely done video!

Really enjoyed the footage of the Island. BTW, in no way do i begrudge the sledders from running around the Island, it just seems odd to allow those motor vehicles!

D. A. (Midwested), i'm just a bit behind you.... think i was 2 when the Bridge opened. Don't think our family took the ferries over, but we sure made use of the Bridge as soon as it opened!

I was also born in 1954; I did the Day Labor
bridgewalk on the 50th anniversary.

In the winter, you can think of snowmobiles as
little personal ferryboats. And as to getting
around town, it's still a somewhat unique method;
I haven't seen many snowmobiles zipping around
town where I live.
