It’s a birding kind of day from our archives today. We go back to 2009 with Brenda Leigh, for a close-up look at a Chickadee in her backyard. I love the way the fluffy snow is surrounding this pretty little bird on the branch.

The next bird photo was snapped by Melody Provost Holmes in 2014. She said these Cardinals were regulars around her bird feeders. A couple interesting facts about Cardinals that you may or may not know: These birds were once prized as pets, but their sale as a caged bird is now banned here in the U.S.; Most songbirds, usually the male is the only one that sings, but with Cardinals, both the male and the female sing and when you hear the female Cardinal singing from the nest, she's usually telling the male that she needs more food. Interesting…

Today’s video isn’t exactly about birds, but it’s titled Michigan Brown Birds and it was videoed at a bird feeding station, so that counts, I guess.

If you want to see lots of Cardinals in the Fall
then plant a Hawthorn tree. They love the
berries. I get dozens of visitors every year.

Nice Birds and review, off on medical leave, oral surgery is healing just fine, diabetic foot concerns.... well having some problems, off on short term disability doing much better, off until the first of March. Sure could use 12 months rehab in the Keweenaw !! lol At what point does one say, enough is enough and start to enjoy retirement??

UC,

I'm right there with you UC on saying enough is enough. This coming May the snow will be gone from the U.P. and I turn 65!!!...eligible for Medicare!!! I'm at a loss for finding a reason to work past May. Twelve months in the U.P. sounds great but I think I'll take it 6 months at a time and retreat with my trailer to places without snow for the other 6 months.

Good luck with recoup, UC. I'll be joining "Club Retirement" in a 1.5 years, although I may still work part-time. Everyone I know who retired eventually became bored and went back to doing some kind of work.

Oh UC, sorry to hear about the foot problems. Will say a few prayers that it heals well. Take care of yourself.
