We’re putting the Pasty Cam on ice today. Our first photo takes us back to Great Sand Bay in 2001, with Jon Hopper. We visited this same “bay” three days ago, but from a different angle and the weather wasn’t as snowy.

The next icy scene was snapped in 2008, by Shawn Malone of Lake Superior Photo in Marquette. Shawn lives on the shores of Lake Superior and snapped this coyote walking on the ice from her back yard. She said at the time, that predators this close to her home is worrisome, as they had a little dog, so they had to always be on guard.

Now this next scene was from Del Rajala back in 2009. I didn’t have the story behind the photo back then and I don’t have it now, but the consensus was that water hole had something to do with a U.P. sauna and perhaps this was their way of cooling down from the steamy treatment. Or maybe it was their own private Polar Bear Club. Whatever the story was, I’m glad I wasn’t invited, to their frigid party.

Our current photo was taken by Joe Kirkish of Lake Medora a week or so ago. As you can see, it’s frozen over, but I have no clue how thick the ice is, so it’s best to stay off and just admire it all from afar.

We didn’t get to see the three gentlemen in the third photo take a dip in the water, but the young man in today’s video does just that in Lake Superior at Misery Bay. Check out the slushy ice there, too, I can only imagine how cold that quick dip was. No thank you!

2018 Lake Medora his close to my heart having spent every summer there as a kid until we got our own place at LB, beautiful pic, thanks!!

The video is cool!! Oh to be young again!! Way to go young man, that's SISU at it's finest!!

Go Huskies this weekend at LCA, they have to be the favorites over U of M, MSU and LSSU!!

I agree UC, since the Cats aren't in it ~ go Huskies!

Hey, are you all recuperated and back to normal?

Classic pix and the only way I would do that is, if there was a brand new Corvette waiting for me when I climbed out of that lake.

I fondly remember attending several Great Lakes Invitational Tournaments 40 plus years ago, when they were played at Olympia Stadium. When did they start adding the Red Wing triple header?

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Sunday, December 30, 2018 - 12:31 pm:

jbuck, first step/surgery is done, going thru the healing process, then they put the post in, and a tooth afterwards, about a 9 month process they tell me. Wearing a custom retainer with a matching tooth for work, but I sound like daffy duck when talking, lol... it is what it is I guess. Thanks for asking.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Sunday, December 30, 2018 - 02:58 pm:

Yikes!!! UC, that's quite a process. Know it'll be
worth it when you are finally done. Keep your stick
on the ice!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Sunday, December 30, 2018 - 08:24 pm:

D. A., this is the first time i've seen the triple
header, but then when the Cats aren't involved i
don't pay as close attention! ;-) So maybe someone
else can help answer that.

jbuck,

NMU has been invited 6 times since their first appearance in 1983. Their next appearance will be in 2 years (2020-21). Next year's 4th slot is scheduled to be Ferris State.
