There’s always beauty to behold here UP North, no matter the season. Autumn is one of the more colorful times, though and we have several good examples from the archives here today. Starting back in 2008, we join Joyce Tormala for a crisp and refreshing walk along Lake Superior’s shoreline with her four-legged friend, Paco. There’s some serious color going on with the trees bordering the beach, too.

Jumping ahead just one year to 2009, Dorothy Stewart captured a Fall scene out at her Bootjack home. Such a colorful scene with plenty of scarecrow grins and pumpkins, too. Now if that doesn’t say “Autumn”, I don’t know what does.

I think Bob Gilreath gets the “color” award for his shot in 2014. This photo was snapped from one of the Firesteel Trestles. The three trestles take ATV's, UTV's and snowmobiles in the winter, over the Firesteel River on the Bill Nicholls trail, which was the old Copper Range route. The color surrounding the trestles and off in the distance is quite simply, amazing!

Our current photo today, was taken by Joy Ziemnick recently, while her family was camping at High Rock Bay at the tip of the Keweenaw. By the looks of the Lake Superior Splash she captured, I’d have to say that the Big Lake was rocking and rolling the day she snapped this one.

We’re taking a color tour back in 2014 for our video excursion today. Driving along the Mandan Loop Road off US 41 up near Copper Harbor. Enjoy!

Just how is the color this week? Last year, peak seemed to be during the 2nd week so I missed most of it. Satellite imagery has shown overcast skies for the last 2+ weeks so I can't even see what's going on from here.

Color is very good in the higher elevations. Between Phoenix and Calumet, lots of color. But go down the hill to Eagle River, and there's still a lot of green, all the way to Copper Harbor.

Thanks Charlie,

When I have to travel a full day to get there, I try to pick my time carefully. The MODIS/NOAA satellite imagery is instrumental in watching the peak color approach and crescendo, but it looks like you guys haven't seen the full Sun for weeks (or at least not when they're snapping the photos). I guess I just need to plan on coming for a full two weeks.

Great Pic's and Video, and a nice time to be U.P. and in the woods. I miss doing that, gonna have to put a trip together with my pal Marty.

I agree, UC. Things are ramping up here in 1040 land, but thanks for the pix and the drive.
