We’re exploring some of the various occupations that have appeared in the archives on this day. We begin with Norm Hettinger back in 2004. He was in Grand Marais, which is between Marquette and Sault St. Marie on the Lake Superior coastline, at the end of M-77. They have a Commercial Fishermen’s Memorial there, dedicated to the Great Lakes Commercial Fishermen that make a living on the Lakes, but especially to those who have lost their lives out of the Grand Marais Harbor.

Our next occupation is found back in 2009 at the Houghton County Historical Society Museum campus in Lake Linden. Jim Alain took us there for a ride on the Steam Locomotive #3 Lake Linden & Torch Lake train. A fun time for kids of all ages riding in the open train cars behind a historical steam run engine. Just imagine the conductor yelling, All Aboard!

Last of the occupations, but certainly not least, because it’s one of the jobs that built the Copper Country, we have two Miners. Those two good looking young miners are my grandsons, who went on a tour of the Delaware Mine with their Mom, Mariah Fontaine Lamorand, back in 2013. Fun and educational for them to see how their great-great-grandfathers made a living working in the mines.

We’re going back to Lake Linden to hop on the Steam train in our video feature for today. Brian Keeney takes us there for a look at the Porter 0-4-0T steam locomotive as it passes by. A glimpse of history in action

Hey, I recognize those good looking miners. I bet
they had a lot of fun.

Was fun to watch that train, if only for a minute.

Nice pix and as I mentioned before, I wish that conductor worked for Uber.

Nice collection representing the professions in the

Always like seeing Mindy in the 2003 photo ~ which
could make her 15 years old. Hope she's still going

On the train ride at Lake Linden, does anyone know why the
wooden trestle was eliminated and replaced with fill material?
