Two of the past photos throughout the years on this day were bears, starting with an oldie from Bruce Smith that first appeared on the Pasty Cam in 2001. I’m not sure when the photo was taken, but that was back in the day when the Copper Harbor Dump was open and an attraction for tourists to come and watch the bears rummage through the garbage, looking for dinner.

The next bear was spotted in Bill Haller’s Houghton backyard in 2015. It was also looking for some dinner or maybe just a snack, since he wouldn’t be getting too full on the sunflower seeds at Bills and Eloise’s feeders. It’s definitely that time of year again, so if you have feeders out, be prepared for a visit from a hungry black bear!

Our last photo for today was snapped in 2016, by Stacey Flood. This beautiful “after the storm” shot of a double rainbow in Eagle Harbor was described by Stacey as a “surreal experience” for her and one of the most amazing of her life. She sure did a good job capturing the vivid colors of the rainbows and she looks like she was close enough to reach out and touch them even. Beautiful!

Today’s video takes us to Newberry, where Oswald’s Bear Ranch is located. They’re open for the season once again, so if you’re in the area, you can stop in and see antics like these yearlings playing in the pond there at the Ranch. In the meantime, just sit back and enjoy the show right here on the Pasty Cam.

We enjoyed Oswald's. Nice set up for the critters
with lots of room.

Decades ago we were some of those tourists going
to the Copper Harbor Dump to see the bears!

I absolutely love beats... From a healthy
distance 😁

Wow...what a ruckus! Reminds me of the hood, growing up in Detroit.
And Deb...pickled beats? (Sorry, I couldn't resist. :)

Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper):
"I absolutely love beats... From a healthy distance 😁."

(What Deb said, with a little minor tweaking, plus enhancing the emoji character with bold and double size formatting tags.)

1. Take the "😁" (containing the ASCII code for the emoji character)

2. Replace the leading "&#" with the formatting tag: "\char{"
and replace the trailing ";" with proper formatting tag closure: "}"

3. Add preceding (click →) formatting tags for boldface: "\b"
and double size: "\2{"

4. Append the corresponding closure for each: "}", yielding:

\b{\2{\char{128513}}} (as written)

… which the forum's formatting engine will turn into this:
😁
(Other sneaky tricks have been used herein to prevent the formatting engine from converting the "as written" formatting tag(s) into the corresponding emoji.)
Arcane enuff fer ya? 😉

Only one bear was involved in each of the various "playful" encounters with the others. I wonder if gender had anything to do with it. If they were little kids that most energetic one would be labelled, at best, a bully.

I am not as smart as you are FRNash. And I don't
love beats...I love bears, lol! But I am computer
illiterate. Oh woe is me!
