The U.P. is known for being less inhabited by people and having more critters than the urban areas. Today’s archive and current photos give us a look at some you’ll see here UP North. Starting with an up close photo from Frank Anderson in 2007, we see eye to eye with a Holstein Cow, still wearing her fuzzy, winter coat. She’ll be shedding that soon, with the warmer temperatures of Spring.

Getting to the more wild critters across the U.P., we have a shot from 2012, snapped by Bryant Weathers at the Sturgeon River Sloughs near Chassell. It must have been an early spring that year for this goose pair to already have their chicks floating with them in the water there.

Jean Dessellier is thrilled to have her “friends” visiting her Lake Linden backyard once again. Her deer friends returned this past week and Jean reports they are looking good and healthy after such a long winter. Another visitor that is back to visiting her again is the Mourning Dove. She snapped this shot on Sunday and said it hung around with her all day as she did her yard work.

Most of us are thrilled if we get to see a moose in our travels around the U.P., then there are those that are either lucky to be in the right place at the right time or they just know where to look to find them. That’s Lindsay Butala, she was on her way to Marquette last Thursday and spotted this trio of them just outside of Michigamme. They seem to be quite interested in her, too!

In case you haven’t heard the Mourning Dove’s coo or have maybe heard it and not known what or who was making that sound, we have a video for you here today to clear that all up. Enjoy!

I love animal pictures but the second and third
pictures are my favorites. So darn cute!

Those moose were waiting for the next train and stopped to pose for a picture.

I love the call of the Mourning Dove.

I'd be thrilled to see one moose on the hoof, let
alone 3! A few years back one was wondering around
NMU.
