Another day, another look back into the archives at the plethora of photos stored there. Many people flee the U.P. when winter comes around, but plenty of folks stay and partake of the beauty that these colder months provide. Like the snowy mushroom shot from Joyce Tormala snapped in 2005. Today being the first day of winter, it was noted back when this photo appeared on the Pasty Cam, that the calendar might be a bit behind for the Copper Country weather.

In 2009, Rod Burdick was actually photographing the freighter, James R. Barker at the dock unloading coal, but what I liked about the photo is the icy shoreline in the foreground. When the wind combines with the cold and waves, the results are often quite beautiful encased in ice.

Brenda Leigh was out and about last year this time, in 2016, exploring around the Whitefish Point Lighthouse. I love how she captured the snow squall surrounding the lighthouse. She loves winter and snowshoeing adventures along the shores of Lake Superior.

Today's current photo was snapped by Judy Byykkonen while snowshoeing earlier this week when the sun was shining. We don't get too many of those types of days, so getting out and enjoying it when the sun does peek out is a necessity. If you're wondering about the black spot on her trail, I think that's her Scottish Terrier, Minnie, taking a break from their adventure.

Pure Michigan is taking us on a snowshoeing jaunt today at Tahquamenon Falls. Strap on your virtual snowshoes, no snuggies required.

Alex: Of course he looks the same, how many Santa's do you think there are;)? He does have a lot of doppelgangers though.

"Yeah, well, I'm not from here, man. Like, I'm from Pittsburgh, man. I don't know to many local dudes."

Well how does he fit in the chimney and do that all in one night man?

Simple... He takes the Freeway and a little magic dust man!!
