Shoebox Memories are the theme for today's archive thread of photos. On this day in 2005, Dave Poisson shared a photo of the last scheduled Soo Line train as it crossed the Portage Lake Lift Bridge back in September 1982.

Then in 2011, we featured a Shoebox Memory courtesy of the MTU Archives. That's the former Hepting Farm Road School, which was located on the lakeside curve on M-26 just beyond Jacob's Falls. It had been moved there, about six miles, from the Hepting Farm Road at Phoenix, by the Dow family to be used as their family cabin until 1983 when they sold the property to the Society of St. John. Throughout the years, the former school became the monastery and later was expanded and transformed into the Holy Transfiguration Skete.

Our final Shoebox Memory was shared to the Pasty Cam by the Hart Family. Snapped back in 1939, it depicts two young couples out on a double date. The ones on the right are Joyce and Charles Hart. Pastor Hart was the director of Gitche Gumee Bible Camp for a number of years and Joyce worked right alongside him there. She was instrumental in the pasty beginnings for us here at Pasty Central, sharing the way Gitche Gumee would mix up ingredients ahead of time to expedite the making of large quantities of those delicious Pasties.

For our video adventure today, we're going to do a bit of train watching, as the Soo Line 4410 heads to Humboldt. All aboard!

Careful not to get wet watching the train in the last half of that video. I had to grab an umbrella

Nostalgic Monday morning pix and the video was surprisingly mesmerizing and hip gnaw tic, if you get my drift.

Double dating. What a novelty!! Those were fun
times for sure. And that train is sure moving at
a snail's pace. Reminds me of the ones out here
that stop me for 5 minutes or more and make me
late for work. But, I love trains!!

US Highway 41:
Like the old railroad description..."Through the vastness of nothing to the extremities of nowhere..'

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 - 07:48 am:

..."and the price for a ticket to nowhere has just gone up a dollar more."

I have watched that video 3 times...it's like medicating.
