Some days the look-back into the archives shows off a definite theme, like today it's all about lights. We start off with a 2002 shot of Gull Rock Lighthouse by Tom Harris. Will the seagulls sitting on the rocks around the light, you get an idea why this beacon at the tip of the Keweenaw bears the name it does.

The light in this 2004 archive photo snapped by Rod Burdick, is Menominee's North Pier Light and that's the Calumet pulling into port there most likely carrying coal.

In 2015, Barb Bouwkamp shared a different light, the one that illuminates the Quincy Mine Hoist at night. Folks can "light up the Shafthouse" in honor or in memory of someone for an evening. For information about doing so, click here: #2 Shafthouse Lighting.

Wrapping up our feature of lights today, we share a video of the Crisp Point Lighthouse, made back in 2014 by UP Graphics. It's a nicely put together tour with music that compliments the waves and darkened skies surrounding the light!

Superior pictures today and that video was
mesmerizing. I will have to "like" their facebook
page and see what kinds of videos they have.
Thanks for sharing that.

Lighthouses and mines; it doesn't get any better than that!

Nice review pix and that video...that video is superb! And yes, I too, love the music. I only wish there was some way to identify the artists???

I've never been to Crisp Point Lighthouse. Definitely adding it to the list, although I doubt I'll ever see it from this winter perspective.

Nice review and video (as usual)!! 1st and 4th photo are my favorites, spent the most time around both. It's so hot in S.E. MI right now, I wish I was boating/swimming around the Gull Rock lighthouse right now, this weather is crazy for this time of year!!

We can adapt Ed Abbey's (a confirmed 'desert rat') observation to our UP,...we like our space! We like our trees quite a bit more dense, helps in solitude and space.

"Trees, like man, should be well-spaced from one another...not more than one to a square mile. It is space and scarcity that gives us dignity. And Liberty. And Beauty."

My favorite lighthouse! We're charter members of the Crisp Point Historical Society. Over the decades the trip out to the lighthouse has gotten easier and easier (tho still not 'easy' in your basic car). Well worth the trip!
