The archive of the past 19 years of Pasty Cam photos is filled with a number of gems, namely the Shoebox Memory features. With Labor Day just behind us, the focus of this first week in September throughout the years has been about the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day walk and when I saw the photos that we featured back in 2015, I knew they had to be repeated here today.

The first photo was taken at the start of the very first Labor Day Bridge walk, back in 1958. It's hard to tell how many are there lined up to make the first crossing on foot, but it looks like young and old alike were there to join in on that historic day. The guy out in front looks like he must be the "official starter" of the event.

I'm not sure what the story behind the second photo is or the year it was taken, but I'm pretty sure this four-legged walker on the Mighty Mac was not authorized to be there. Looks like it's an unofficial bridge walk with some official looking escorts. What a great capture that was back then.

More recently, one of our regular photographer contributors, Brenda Leigh had the opportunity of a lifetime, when a friend with "connections" arranged a trip to the top of the Mackinac Bridge for her. She takes us along in today's video feature. If you're afraid of heights, you might want to close your eyes!

Quite the video, nice view, but no way you'd find me way up there! Yikes!!

As far as I'm concerned.....there SHOULD be huge
lights that say "BRENDA WAS HERE"!!!

What an accomplishment! I always new Brenda would make it to the top. Thanks for the climb...and good job with the camera action.
Someone would have to grease that hole and shove real hard, in order to get me threw it.

Nice group of pictures. I didn't realize the bridge walk has been around as long as it has.
The top of the Mackinac Bridge is number one on my list of places I don't have to see. I don't like heights. Come to think of it I'm not that fond of widths either.

Alex, We could look up towards the top of the towers from the comfort of my truck, and marvel at Brenda's accomplishment making it to the top, knowing a pasty would be in our future when we arrived in the Keweenaw! :=)

I think one of these days you might need to take a road trip with me, and we'll go harass Mary and take in the sights!!
