Daniell Park is located in Laurium, on the corner of Third Street and Pewabic Street and that's where Barb Bouwkamp was a week ago Wednesday, to enjoy the music of Dave Pomroy and the Variations. What a great looking venue to play and listen to music in the fresh U.P. air.
A bit of history on the park…it was donated to the Village of Laurium by Joshua Daniell in 1937 for use as a public park. At that time, a concrete band shell was constructed and it was occasionally used from the 1940's to the 1970's. In 1974, the Village Street Department renovated the park and has maintained it since, making it a great place for musicians to perform and the audience to sit and enjoy the annual summer concert series, which was begun in 1985 and goes on still today. I've never had the pleasure of attending one of these outdoor concerts there, but it's definitely going on my "things to do" list.

How cool!! We have music at our town park every other Friday during the summer months. There are some really good concerts held there. Best thing is they're always free. There are fund raisers during the year that helps to pay for them. It's become quite the hit. You would used to see just a few chairs there and now the park is packed. It's a nice thing to do in the summer.

Wow! Talk about "old stomping grounds"! I could literally be sitting on the deck of the Daniell Manor (my former residence) watching a concert! Heck! I could even be looking directly out of the window of my apartment as the view was straight across the street!
