The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore near Munising, has numerous frozen waterfalls along the cliffs this time of year, so it is the perfect spot for the Michigan Ice Fest, which was held this past weekend. It draws experienced and beginner ice climbers to the schedule of classes and info about the winter sport.

Marilynn Bachorik and her husband went out looking for an adventure during the fest and spotted a steep path along the Pictured Rocks Coastline, so they strapped on their cleats and followed it down. Actually, Marilynn said that her hubby acted like a kid again and slid down the steep path, instead of walking down. Sounds like fun!

Marilynn said there are a number of paths, with each one holding wintry beauty along the way. When you get to the bottom, you're treated to hidden, frozen falls along the North Country Trail. And if you're lucky enough to be there last weekend, like Marilynn was, you're treated to a display of ice climbing, too!

When Nat and I were in Norway a couple years ago (the country, not the town), we got to ice climb up a glacier which was a lot fun. You really can't believe how blue ice can get unless you're up close and personal with one.

Last spring, when my mom picked me up from tech,
we did a sight seeing tour of all the full water
falls. One of them was Munising Falls. Never in
my life had I seen something so powerful. I had
heard they broke the ice just within the week. I
wonderful how powerful they will be flowing in
April/May???
