A frog and some fog to start a new month. These shots floated through my Inbox this morning, from our ever intrepid Dan Urbanski at the keyboard above. They capture the feel of a wet week here in the Keweenaw and out on Isle Royale, though I doubt many other PowerBooks ever go backpacking on the Island.

This month we'll be asking you to help select photos for your 2003 Pasty Cam Calendar. Stay tuned for details...

Have a good August.

By Beverly, Mississippi on Thursday, August 1, 2002 - 09:31 am:

I was just wondering how many months are on a Pasty Cam Calendar? Because I am sure there are more, many more then twelve beautiful pictures to choose from. Ah, so many pictures, so few months.
Its raining is southwest Mississippi today and I have a veritable nursury of new plants waiting to go into my new landscape. There are six crepe myrtles, two burford hollys, some yellow day lillies, lorepetalum, well, the list goes on but I wont. Have a great day.

Glad I don't have to make those tough decisions - this week has three WOW's in it already! Thank you so much for all the beauty.

By Grandmas's Pasties, MN on Thursday, August 1, 2002 - 10:15 am:

Your frog is outstanding, Dan, as all your other work is. Just thought I'd say thanks.

By Scott from NWLP of MI on Thursday, August 1, 2002 - 10:48 am:

I agree w/Sandy... the frog photo is great! It has my vote for a WOW. See you in the Yoop soon! Gitche Gumme is calling!

By Pat WI. on Thursday, August 1, 2002 - 01:08 pm:

You should look at having a 365 day Pasty Cam desk calender made. Then we could enjoy a different beautiful picture each day just like your web site!

Darrell O. If you're out there today, your letter is in today's online Gazette.

We apologize for the Bridge Cam and the Copper Harbor Cam being down much of the day. Some rough weather caused power outages this morning. They are both up again.

I agree about the top picture. As a WOW, it would look like a frog is stuck inside your computer monitor.

By JAD, Oskar on Thursday, August 1, 2002 - 07:29 pm:

Here's an old camp song:

Hear the lively song
do re me-re do
Of-the frog in yonder pond
do mi fa sol-fa mi
Crick, Crick, Crickety Crick
sol sol sol sol
Grrrrr-----ump!
Octave lower sol do
Thanks, Dan!

By Linda in Flint on Thursday, August 1, 2002 - 07:58 pm:

I second the Pasty Cam picture-a-day calender idea. I bet it would sell like hotpastys!!

By Kate, CA on Thursday, August 1, 2002 - 10:23 pm:

I love that Dan is a Mac user!! No wonder all
of your photos are so grand!!

;-)

Just kidding! (But Mac users know)
Thanks so much for all of your fine photos. I
love seeing the U.P. through your eyes.

By Dan U. on Thursday, August 1, 2002 - 11:07 pm:

Yup, I bought my first Mac, an SE, in 1987 and
I've been smiling ever since. Today just one of
my photos would fill the hard drive on it!

I've been slacking. There are a whole bunch of
new photos to post on my website,

Boy, JAD, Oskar, that song takes me back. I remember singing that over and over as we hiked to our "home in the woods" at Camp Judson Collins in the Irish Hills. Except I think we had an extra "crick" at the end of that line.

By Kathy S., Fowler, MI on Friday, August 2, 2002 - 07:43 am:

The frog picture is spectacular! Please tell us how it was taken. It looks like it was taken from below - but how??? Details, details!!! In my opinion it's an award winner "fer shur".

By Mary Schei, Florida on Friday, August 2, 2002 - 09:12 am:

Great shot of the frog - Our Florida treefrogs are some of my favorite "tenants". They are very photogenic, but my talents are nowhere near Dan's. Hats off to you! Definitely a WOW.

By Mike B, Pittsburgh, wishin I was still in the Yoop on Friday, August 2, 2002 - 02:44 pm:

Judging from the Bridge Cam, it looks like another beautiful sunny afternoon in the U.P.

Have a great weekend everyone :-)

As I sit here in an internet cafe in Dublin, Ireland it brings a quick smile to my face to see that Yooperland is also getting drenched upon. Hope Dan out on the island manages to keep that laptop dry! Keep up the good work with the pastycams as it is a good way to know what is happening back home! Stay dry. (PS: the forecast for the next 4 days here in the Dublin area is RAIN. This has been the worst summer here in 17 years or so--thats what the locals say)

thanks everyone for pointing out to me where i could retrive my letter to the editior. i thank you all, please read my note on the past picture, what i had originaly wrote had been edited, its kind of choppy to read now but the essance of my thoughts still come thru, not flowing like i had first worded it, but good enough. I will live back in calumet someday, even if it means being burrid there.
sincerly:
Darrell C. Oinas
