In less than 3 weeks the Pasty Cam will celebrate 1,000 days of daily coverage with sights in the Keweenaw and across the U.P. Over the years, occasionally we have posted photos of out-of-the-way places, letting you figure the location. Such is today's cam shot.

I'll myself will have to ask Jonathan exactly where it is, because I ran across the shot in the latest diskful from his Fuji, taken this week. Do you know what or where it is?

I know I've been there, but it's been soooo long (30 yrs or so) I can't remember.....

A big thank you for all of your great pictures, I've become a Pasty Cam addict- can't wait to see what the picture of the day is!

And one of these days I'm gonna catch that bridge in the up position!

I also know this place. 20 plus years dims the memory however. Is it the old Quincy railroad line above Dollar Bay?

By Abe, Calumet on Saturday, November 4, 2000 - 11:08 am:

This wouldn't be the old railroad grade between Dollar Bay and Lake Linden would it? It seems that years ago Jon and I rode our 4-wheelers down this trail, or one like it. I don't imagine it's too far from town given the graffiti on the wall.

More precisely, behind the old smelter in Hubbell

I think that this was taken on trail #3, just north of Houghton, but I could be wrong?

By The Chapmans on Saturday, November 4, 2000 - 12:16 pm:

Don't know where it is, but it's a great picture. When it's posted where it is, I'll have to look it up in person.

Congratulations on the upcoming anniversary. Your pictures make my day here in Oklahoma - and I'm a troll. Still, from this far away, Michigan is Michigan and I miss it.

That is a cut thru a ridge on the old RR grade between Dollar Bay and LakeLinden. Amazing the technology they had back then. Just think of the man-hours involved to accomplish it. They were a hearty breed back then.

Is'nt it part of the snowmobile trail between Dollor Bay and Lake Linden?

By Cary Pelto New Mexico on Sunday, November 5, 2000 - 02:46 pm:

I think this is located between Dollar Bay and Lake Linden I remember riding through it many times with a motorcycle and a mountain bike. What a great web site you have. Feels great to see pictures and things of the UP. It has been a while since I have been back. How refreshing to see the beauty of the UP again. Thanks a million.

This site is on the hill, above the sunken dredge, the old railroad bed just north of Mason, that small mining town with white houses (one yellow). You can't see it very well in the photo, but there is graffiti sprayed on the concrete.

And not too far away is the Quincy Creek, a small trickle of a stream where I caught my first speckled trout when my dad took me there at the wise old age of four.
I took that speckled trout home, cause I wanted to keep him, and he lived for a while in a pail of water.
If you follow that creek upstream, you will pass a small dam, now full of sandstone rocks, and further upstream there is a small falls, best viewed during the spring run-off, a quietly wild rush of root beer colored water.
Maybe a future Pasty-Cam photo?

Jon........This is an awesome picture. I've loved looking on pasty cam the past few weeks, seeing your pictures of the changing fall colors. However, I'm sure that snow will be captured soon. Be sure to tell us where this picture is taken :)
