Stormy Sunset, Porcupine Mountains

We have certainly been blessed this year to have so many good shots from Dan Urbanski. My windows 98 wallpaper happens to be his lightning shot over the Lake, back on June 22... probably taken near this same spot.

If you capture a scenic/historic/odd/interesting sight in the U.P., we welcome you simply to email it to my attention. At the present time we are assembling a Summer 2000 scrapbook with vacation/reunion shots, which we should have in time for Labor Day.

What a beautiful picture. It looks like a painting. And of course orange is my favorite color. I think I'll replace Dan's blue flag (which I have as wallpaper) with this one. Such talent! Does Dan do this professionally?

What a beautiful picture! The mention of the unusual weather and cool snap in the UP right now reminds me of our vacation up there last summer. We drove up on July 30. We were all in the middle of a heat wave in the midwest at the time. I wasn't sure what to pack clothes wise because of it so packed a little of everything; from shorts and tshirts to long underwear and sweats. It was the hottest and most humid I had felt here in Chicago in a long time. I was trying to figure out how we could stay cool while camping in that heat. By the time we hit Wasau, WI around 6pm that evening it was still 90 but we could see a strom on the horizon. We ran into that real nasty storm a little later on. It had knocked out power to alot of the towns in the UP near where we were camping. A cool front had come through the area bringing the storm but releif from the hot temps as well! My worry about how to stay cool was gone! We finally reached our camp ground and the next morning when we arose we had perfect weather! We also had great weather for the rest of the trip too! In fact, the nights were quite chilly getting down to the 40s. So I was glad to have packed the long underwear and sweats! Just goes to show you how fast weather can turn around!

Dan, this shot is superb! I remember when I saw this magnificent sky the other night I said to a friend I hope Dan gets this pic on the Pasty Cam and here you are. I send your pictures to friends all over the country and never having seen you, personally, they have met you through your beautiful, sensitive, photography! Thanks for the info. My husband and I spent some time in the Porcupine Mt. St. Park many years ago, before we were married as a matter of fact. Guess that's why I didn't recall that Silver City was near there.

We LOVED that park. Except for the black flies that were particularly bad that year.

My Mother and I just left Copper Harbor on the 16th - looks like we missed the most gorgeous sunset that night! On the last night there, the 15th, she and I went over to where the Isla Royale Queen docks, hoping for a sunset. There was a band of gray on the horizon after the sun set, but I had a feeling that some color would still develop. At first it was just a very faint pink low on the horizon, then purple, growing in intensity and color, until there was this brilliant fuschia color spreading out against the gray clouds, and underlining other clouds higher up. It was a memorable last evening.

What is wallpaper, exactly, anyway? I'm a Mac
person, and I don't think we have that.
