My favorite 4th of July memory is of Copper Harbor in 1976. We were camping at Fort Wilkins State Park and were treated to having the Bicentennial Parade come right through the campgrounds. It was great! I have yet to see a parade I enjoyed more.

Beautiful shot! Out of curiosity from a complete beginner, how many shots did you take to get this masterpiece? Nice job Jonathan...

Side note: About when do the blackflies die off in the Keweenaw?

By Michael Nemec, Republic of Panama on Friday, July 6, 2001 - 11:17 am:

We completely missed the fireworks show down here. Thank you mom!

To Stuckinpontiac:

Each day it is my priviledge to sort through shots for the Pasty Cam, of which Jonathan has now taken about 25,000. On this particular disk he had taken 39 pictures, and this was one of my favorites.

About the black flies: they have not been bad at all this week. HOWEVER there are dense clouds of moths everywhere, the descendents of our recent tentworm infestation.

I was visiting my brother out near Denver a couple weeks ago, and there has been alot of tree damage out there from catapillars too. (atleast I think that's what caused it all) Acres of once green forest have turned brown on the mountainsides.

What kind of settings did Jonathan use on the camera to get those fireworks? I've been trying to take pictures of our local displays for the last few years and have never gotten a picture as good as the one posted here today. Keep up the good work!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the compliments. I stopped down to f22 and set the camera for an 8 second exposure with an emulation of ISO 320 film. The fireworks in this picture are actually more washed out than some I snapped on the 5th. I guess this shot was used because of the abundance of fireworks visible.

We sure miss the Copper Harbor fireworks. We went to them for years when we lived there. We moved to Arizona 4 months ago from the Copper Country.
Beautiful pictures Jon. But yours are always great.

One of my favorite memories of Michigan Tech and the UP was the summer I stayed up there and sat atop Brockway to watch the fireworks at Copper Harbor...and to be high enough to look down on the fireworks over Copper Harbor was amazing...boy do I miss the UP!
