I see the students are doing their normal exceptional job as usual. Sure wish that I could be up there to see these works of art in person. I am very, very impressed

Wow--That one is great. Send more.

I fondly remember my freshman year at Tech ('79-'80) and the all-nighter I spent working on the DHH dorm statue. The miniture freight train I carved out of ice blocks with an iron and soldering gun turned out pretty good. But by about 2:00 a.m. I was wishing for warmer toes and dry fingers (slushing the statues is how you get that nice glaze look). I chalked the experience up to "everyone has to do it once". The following year I joined the warm and "happy" people that just wandered and watched.

Looks like Poseidon's been using his "ab"-roller. That's a real (n)ice piece of work guys!

Please help! My astrology's gone rusty. Just what 4 planets are aligned there through the Sea-God's crown?

Ever had your armpit tickled by an ice-crystal cutlass, Big Wet Guy?

By Julie, IL on Friday, February 9, 2001 - 11:36 pm:

I have no idea how they do that! They have to be very talented! Great job on a beautifully done sculpture.

By Carie, Port Huron, MI on Saturday, February 10, 2001 - 08:45 am:

As usual, a phenomenal job on this ice sculpture.
Thank you, Pasty Cam, for the pleasure of being able to see this. Hope to see more!

Fantastic, keep up the great work. I try to spend as much time in the summer up your way as I can.

By Rose - Channahon, IL on Saturday, February 10, 2001 - 05:55 pm:

WOW! I would love to be up there to see this in person. I guess sometime I will have to visit the U.P. in winter instead of summer and fall.

Thanks again Jon!
The all-nighter is one of those special Keweenaw moments I hate to miss but you've captured it well. Hope everybody enjoys the fireworks tonight. I'm at sea but keep peaking at the bridge cam, hoping to catch Houghton lit up by the bursts...

Ah, yes, the all-nighter: the icey sculpture, the icey fingers & toes el.al., the chilli & beer wagons, rumors of listing statues, months of planning coming together as everyone worked together! Great memories, fond places of the heart from long ago ('67-'70). Thanks, Jon; keep 'em comin'!

I suppose it's too late to wish for this right now, eh?? It's beautiful.... so lovely and cool-looking.... peaceful....
Oh winter, where are your lovely temperatures when the 90's are beating upon us??
