Last evening we spent a delightful half hour browsing through Barb Nelson's Guest Gallery album, and were intrigued by this early specimen of trick photography. I'm sure Barb's grandma Knutz would have had quite a guest gallery of her own, had the Internet been around 86 years ago. Apparently she was the photographer of the family, though grandpa Knutz provided some technical assistance. Now we know where Barb got her photogenic genes.

Mother's Day greetings to all the Moms and GrandMoms who frequently visit with us here at Pasty Central. Have a great day!

A Mother has to be a teacher, a chaperon, a nurse, a chauffeur, a seamstress, a cook, a judge, a model, a disciplinarian, a good listener, a friend, but most of all, someone who loves you, hugs you, and kisses you to make it all better. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

By Susie in AZ on Sunday, May 9, 2004 - 10:34 am:

In loving memory of my precious mom, Allie (Laplander) Jokie who passed away on May 7, 1979, just before Mother's Day when I was in my 20's. Can't believe it has been 25 years; it seems like only yesterday. She was my best friend and an awesome lady and I still miss her, but especially when Mother's Day comes around.

Dogs of Keweenaw fans may enjoy an album of Eagle Harbor's "Abby the Wonderdog" pics. No pasties devoured, but her travels embraced almost every other Copper Country delight.

My Grandmother (now passed on) gave this toast on Mother's Day for years.

"To all the self-made men....and the mothers that self-made them."

Sleep well, Gami (Muriel Chene Craig) 1910-1989.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MOM (LORRAINE HINTZ PIETRAS) 1928-1988 AND GRANDMOTHER (HELEN Cieslinski HINTZ)1908-1988. THEY PASSED AWAY WITH IN A MONTH OF ONE ANOTHER. I MISS THEM BOTH VERY MUCH. THEY WERE JOYS IN MY LIFE AND EVERYONE ELSE'S.

By Shirley Laurin on Sunday, May 9, 2004 - 10:16 pm:

Really enjoyed all the Mother's Day posts today. I dearly miss my grandmother (Ida Sastamoinen of Painesdale) and mom (Lila Ruonavar). Both of them have been gone a long time, but will be in my heart always. For anyone who loves polka music which was so popular back in the 50's and 60's, listen to www.247polka heaven. It's 10:10 PM now and a great program is now in progress. It is such happy music and so much fun to hear when perusing through the messages from the good folks who love the Copper Country as I do. I don't particularly like the Polish style, but the Slovenian (Cleveland-style) is the greatest!! Enjoy!!

By Ken and Mimi from da UP on Sunday, May 9, 2004 - 11:22 pm:

We have listened to the www.247polkaheaven coupla times and it really is nice. 'Course being the banjo player for Kilpela and Friends wouldn't have nuttin' to do wit' it, 'eh?

To my Beautiful Princess B.

Happy Mother's day...you know I Love my
mommy. Thank you for having me, its really
great to be here!

I Thank you for teaching me-all that stuff that
makes me special. And for the peanut butter
sandwiches, and twinkies in my lunch box.

I'm sorry for that "hyper thing", and for
jumping on the bed, and for any grey hairs I
may have caused you...when I fell off and hit
my head. Oh yeah,...and I'm sorry for the
tidbits of food I stuck in the cracks underneath
the counter, (But honestly mom, you really
didn't expect me to eat fish or mushrooms
because they were good for me did you?)
Hey... I was just a kid!

Thank you for your love for me!
Thank you for being someone for me to look
up to, and for being such a lady. And for
being there for me, no matter how much stuff
was being put on you, you were always there
for me, and you listened, with all your heart.
I am in awe of your strength, and inspired by
your grace, & the beauty of your smile.

Perennial, Everlasting. & Sweet;
Love is the reason for your dance upon this
earth, and why every heartbeat bears your
name.

I am proud to be your daughter!
& I am so thankful for the space you created
just for me --Deep in your heart!

I am the most loved kid on the block, and
loved by the bestest mom ever!!!!
(I know I took a little more effort, and lot more
patience, but it was worth it, don't you think?)
xoks

Cousin "Sue in AZ" Didn't remember the date your mom passed on. She was always one of my favorite Aunties cause she stuck with my brother and mom and I and helped us thru those tough days in Detroit during WW2 when my dad was overseas. Sure do miss her also!
RCW, Fran, Connie etc. I talked to Dave Hiltunen today down in Tenn. He just got out of the hospital again from a blood clot behind his knee. This is the same condition that took his dad in Dollar Bay at a young age. Our thoughts and prayers are with him!
Barb Nelson: What a beautiful woman! If I were a single man back then I would have fallen head over heels for her!
