As our custom has been the past couple of months, we're giving Toivo the weekend off, somewhere out in Delaware (the state, not the mine). It was my pleasure to open the photo inbox this morning and discover a note from Curtis, in the eastern U.P., where Brian Thomas was recently framed under the setting sun by his wife, in the kayak she had given him for their anniversary.

Meanwhile here in the Copper Country, we're on the way to the Mall in Houghton, where the Copper Country Heritage Fair will feature displays from several non-profit organizations here in the Keweenaw working to preserve the history of the region. Pasty Central will be there with a collection of Shoebox Memories. Also we will have a display of Pasty.NET's new Wireless DSL, which is served from high atop the Quincy Mine shafthouse. Hope to see you there if you're in the area. We'll have some Pasty Cam Calendars and maybe even a few pasties.

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers in this conference... There's one in particular who recently adopted me! Happy Mother's Day, Fran! :)

Hello from the Copper Country Mall. Let me add a link where you can find out more about Painesdale Mine & Shaft, who is also represented here at the Copper Country Heritage Fair.

Stop by and see us today or tomorrow. Pasty Central's booth is at the main Entrance to the Mall, where we have a computer system from Next Century, demonstrating Pasty.NET's high speed wireless. The first reader to ask me for a Pasty Cam calendar will receive it free.

Checked out the PMS website and got lost for a couple of hours in Kevin Musser's various pages. Hats off to him for all his tireless work on saving some of our heritage. Appreciate his sense of humor.

My wallpaper, too! It is great and I too want to get my kayak into some Copper Country water again. Last year I explored your area on 3 trips & can't wait to repeat it all.

In answer to Dave the RiverSlave's question re: the Pitcher Plant (May 8). The photo was taken on April 20 (Easter) , 2003. Apparently, there is a dark purple-red, single, globe shape 5 petal flower which blooms in late spring or early summer. They are of course, a threatened species... according to my source they grow in bogs and swamps.
