Wade Maki only had a few days to spend up in Mass City and Ontonagon, taking a mid-term break from his year in Korea. Maybe we'll be able to post more of the end-of-winter shots which he sent to the Pasty Cam.

Also, in response to a request for an aerial view of Lake Superior, Jason Wiitenan forwarded one from waaay up, taken when the big Lake was almost totally frozen.

Question, I was reading your comments reguarding and old friend whose mother made good povatica bread and I wondered if her first name was Kate? Tony is Katies sister. She was (Katie) a dear sweet aunt of mine who recently passed away and I remember her making the bread and it was wonderful.

Great shot, How many times I rode that lift and looked back over the lake. Have skied alot of places but the Porkies has always been one of my favorites. Now I can finally have people sign on to the Pasty Cam and see what I have tried to explain many times in the past. Anyone else out there skied the Porkies? I bet alot of good memories brought back with this view, hey. Thanks again to the folks sending in the great shots of the UP and for the job the folks at Pasty Cam do to keep native yoopers in touch.

Re: the satellite photo. I did not know that the state and national borders actually show up from outer space!!! ;-) Did Toivo place duct tape on the Earth's surface prior to the shot to help the geographically challenged?

Good old skiing. I went out cross co. skiing in the drizzle today. This is the first time skiing in the rain.
I must admit it was not too great,sinking in wet snow.But good excercise anyhow &-switched to bike .Hope it snows--how about that?

I and friends skied the Porkies many times in the mid 70's. Beautiful trails. Easy hills, but the length was great. The view is obviously awesome. I loved my almost daily skiing at Ripley, but missed those long runs of the Porcupines.

The bridge really looks pretty tonight. The scenery can really change in appearance from day to day.
I'm so happy the goal for the Van is getting nearer.It will be nice for the folks to have this spring and summer.

Karen in Washington state - I can't remember her first name, but as I said, the last name was Sterk, and they lived in Tamarack. I think her husband was Joseph (not 100% sure), and my girlfriend, their daughter was Phyllis. I'll never forget going over there, and there was Phyllis's mother in the kitchen with her table covered with povatica dough. Mmmmmm! What a treat when it was done. Hope these names help.

Nostalgia doesn't begin to cover it. I may have
been raised in a suburb of Detroit, but I
consider myself a Yooper, expatriated as I
may be here in Washington state.

One of my fondest memories is a long hike
during my college days (UofM, Ann Arbor)
through the Porcupines. iIstill have five acres
in the Keweenaw and would like to build a
cabin there and have access to all that
beautiful country once more.

Skied there a few weeks ago for the first time. Loved it, and will certainly go back!
