A scene along the Nara nature boardwalk at Houghton. There was probably a little ice on the surface here this morning, with temps dipping to the low 20's. Mighty cold for the 20th of May. Hopefully it will kill a few blackflies.

Happy Victoria Day to our Canadian friends.

Another great photo! I used to live right next to that bridge while I was going to Tech.

I can't remember how many times I walked across it...

It looks like the grass is starting to pop up now. Won't be much longer before the leaves come out and you get that annual explosion of green after winter gives up it's icy grip on the area.

I look forward to the daily photos from the coming month. Spring is always such a transformation there.

Thanks for the little slice of home.

If this is the Pilgrim River, it is where my dad tried to teach my sister and me to swim. He failed! She was scared. I don't remember how deep the water was, but I sure didn't like it either!

One of my most vivid memories of the the Copper Country is of a beautiful July morning in 1967. I had the privilege of standing in the vestibule of a coach on the Copper Country Limited and took in the whole early morning scene through the open dutch door. This was against the rules of course, but the Conductor had the same appreciation of the day. We were under slow orders for work at the Pilgrim River bridge so we had a great view of the Portage Lake and Quincy Hill. Nice chime air horn echoing back and forth as the engineer blew for all the crossings coming into Houghton. Can't take that ride anymore, the train was gone in another year and the railroad went in another decade or so.

Donn, another winner! Thanks for letting me "see" spring at home.
