The old timers say when the oak doesn't give up her leaves in the fall it will be a hard winter. Is there any truth to this? I say NO!

Marlin, where are you standing for this shot? Looks real familiar. My mom and Dad live on Torch Lake.

Even before I read you question, my first thought was this shot is looking northwest across Torch Lake. However, it could be looking across the Portage...

Anybody know what the ice is like? I'll be home in a week and want to go fishing...maybe Torch Lake? I was thinking this looked like Dollar Bay area.

The Oak leaves are always the last to fall in autumn too. When all the other trees are bare, the leaves you see will be Oak. Nice shot Marlin! Nice to be retired, eh? :-) Good for you!

Marlin's finally got time to take pics like this.

my Grandparents had Oaks in their yard that hit us twice...half would drop their leaves in fall but the other half would wait till spring.
This gave us two "fun filled" seasons of raking
sitting in the 70's here in Phoenix, its fun to see the snow though.

Hey Marlin, great picture!Looks like Dollar Bay to me. I'd like to see some pictures of it actually snowing or wouldn't they turn out. Think my sister Lorraine R of D.B. used to babysit you kids.

I just wanted to say how much I love this site. Everyday, I look forward to seeing a glimpse of the UP. I never truly appreciated the Keweenaw until I moved away. I can hardly wait to come home!!

Hey,Marlin! Great shot. Never a day goes bye that
i dont check out this site. I miss the Copper Country but not the snow. So. Calif. has spoiled
me over the years but I am looking forward to coming home to Dollar Bay in July for the school
reunion. Hope to see you then. Keep the great pics

Shot is taken from Nightengale Lane on the south side of Torch looking NW. Tamarack City would be to the right in the picture.

The Oak trees in my yard always have some leaves that stay on until spring too. I like to think that it is Mother Nature's way of providing warm bedding for the squirrels! Many times I have seen squirrels carry the leaves into their nest boxes. Those boxes were meant for Tree Swallows but the squirrels enlarged the doorways for their use!
