Another busy, busy day at Pasty Central. Apologies if you tried to call our toll-free line and found it busy. It was VERY busy.

Anybody recognize this place?

By Connie Powell Ft. Riley, KS on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - 10:58 pm:

By Daryl Laitila on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 - 10:25 am:

It was a was a beautiful winter day, hope you enjoy the Victorian homes I've added as a tour. These snow covered homes are all in Laurium.

Have you ever seen the beautiful old Tillman house in Hubbell? I lived two doors from it.

By Dan in Fenton, MI on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 - 12:15 pm:

This looks similar to a house that I delivered papers to on Kearsarge Street's 300 block.

Really enjoyed the tour. That's a part of the Keweenaw I've really never seen - the Victorian homes.
thanks for the view!

Hi Daryl Laitila thank you for this beautiful tour of these fabulous homes. The snow makes them so beautiful, I would love to see them in person. Again thanks, keep your camera handy.

It looks like the house I've often seen located at the corner of 1st st. and Willow Ave. Am I right?

By Wendy, IL on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 - 07:37 pm:

They sure don't make them like that anymore do they?!?!

By Alan, Troy, MI on Thursday, December 21, 2000 - 12:20 pm:

Great house! How about a picture at night with the Christmas lights on.

By June, Hubbell, MI on Thursday, December 21, 2000 - 04:50 pm:

I'm not sure where this one is - but the Tillman house is in Laurium. The house in Hubbell is the old Armstrong house. (Armstrong & Tillman were partners in a lumber company years ago and used the same set of plans to build their homes but reversed them left to right because they were on opposite corners.) I know that's a fact, because I live in the old Armstrong house!

Oops! I spelled that wrong! The correct way is Thielman. Sorry about that!

The old victorian homes are fantastic!!
I see that 2 of the homes are constructed
out of Jacobsville Sandstone. Does anyone
know if there is any jacobsville Sandstone
available -- I would really like to make a
fireplace using it. I know they used to quarry
it in Jacobsville {where else} guess they
don't quarry it anymore. Any help would be

when they made the road leading from the site where they took sand to cover the Tamarack sandbanks, they made a short-cut from a dirt road that parallels M-26, right by the curve that has caused so many accidents over the years. three walls (built into a hillside) of jacobsville sandstone was visible for awhile, before fill dirt covered it to make the short-cut road. i suppose that sandstone will forever remain there.
