Despite all the snow that has fallen here UP North, Marquette Harbor is busy with freighter traffic. You can see in these photos from Danielle Adams, that the Harbor waters are even beginning to ice over and actually if it wasn't for the thin layer of ice and those few floating chunks, you wouldn't even be able to tell that winter is fully upon us.

That's the H. Lee White there in Marquette Harbor, unloading its cargo, while the John J. Boland waits off in the distance for her own turn at the docks to unload. Just about a month and a half left to the shipping season on the Great Lakes. So we have to grab whatever freighter photos we can find, to feed the "boat nerd" in us all.

FOOTNOTE: Yesterday's shots from Eric Byykkonen, snowshoeing at Swedetown, were posted later in the evening, so if you missed them, just click here: Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, to take a look at them!

Speaking of freighters, have you noticed the matching pair on the front and back cover of the 2015 Pasty Cam Calendar? It's a dramatic contrast in seasons:

Thanks, Danielle. We all know how much you love these
freighters :-)

Forgot to say that I still haven't purchased my
calendar. Will have to do that soon. I do love
those calendars :-)

It's always a treat to see photos of freighters! Thanks, Danielle.

Chilly looking pix! I wonder what the mean temperature is in that ship during this time of year.

I have a friend that always says "the water looks
like setting jello this time of year"....

Thanks for sharing. I do enjoy pictures of the freighters. The ore dock is huge in comparison to the freighter along side of it and the ore cars on the top of it.

By Danielle L. Adams (Badkid) on Thursday, December 4, 2014 - 11:08 pm:

Actually the Boland was already loaded and waiting for the
White to finish loading. The Michipicoten was on the other
side of the dock waiting their turn to load.

Oh my passion for the freighters is big!! I've been lucky
enough to see numerous ones since living here in Marquette.
Even if I freeze to get photos, so worth it when you see the
results. Thanks everyone!

Hey Alex,
You'd think it would be cold on these boats...reality is that
they're nice and warm!! I was on the James R Barker last fall
and the Lee A Tregurtha this past May. I was in heaven with
those tours!

By Danielle L. Adams (Badkid) on Thursday, December 4, 2014 - 11:15 pm:

I actually have several I know out on the boats always asking why don't I come work out there with them. I don't know if I could do it, but yet I'd love to!
