You might say that today is a Yooper study on snow and ice. We have a trio of photographers that have sent in three very different pictures of the various snowy and icy formations around the U.P., from the L'Anse area, to Gay and further north toward Copper Harbor.

The top photo comes to us from Frederic W. Koski, who was out in the woods, looking UP and found a snowy scene to capture and share. When the snow is wet and the wind is driving it around, everything gets coated in white. What beauty surrounds us in the aftermath of a storm. We just have to slow down and look around to find it.

The middle shot was sent in by Henry Sakari, who said that he wished he had taken his "real" camera with him on a recent drive to Copper Harbor along Lake Superior's shoreline# He snapped this ice coated view with his cell phone camera# It is amazing how the waves splash and freeze so high off the Big Lake when the wind stirs her UP#

Last but not least, Lisa Normand shares a picture of the typical icicles we see hanging from the eaves of houses here in the North Country. This is was taken out in Gay, where some of the wet stuff froze as it ran off the roof.

How many of our visitors used to enjoy icicles as a treat when you were a kid? We sure didn't think about all the dirt and such we were consuming while licking those frozen spears. Those were the days... carefree and no worries.

I ate icicles too, Mary. Never thought of any dirt in icicles. I had
only been warned not to eat any yellow snow...
